چکیده

Results Human nasal epithelial cells were shown to take up dextran, which ended up in intracellular endosome-like structures. In addition, MHC class II and co-stimulatory molecules were found on human and mouse nasal epithelial cells. Functionally, nasal epithelial cells from ovalbumin-sensitized mice activated and induced antigen-specific proliferation of naïve OT-II CD4+ T cells in vitro. A similar activation was not seen in naïve MNECs. Finally, nasal epithelial cells from allergic rhinitis patients were able to activate autologous T cells against Bet v 1 and induce IL-13 release.

Inhibition of T cell costimulation abrogates airway hyperresponsiveness in a murine model.

Activation of naive T cells requires at least two signals. In addition to the well characterized interaction of the T cell antigen receptor with the antigen/MHC expressed on an antigen-presenting cell, T cell activation also requires costimulation by a second set of signals. The best characterized costimulatory receptor is CD28, which binds to a family of B7 ligands expressed on antigen-present...

Downregulation of Integrin β4 Decreases the Ability of Airway Epithelial Cells to Present Antigens

Airway epithelial cells have been demonstrated to be accessory antigen presentation cells (APC) capable of activating T cells and may play an important role in the development of allergic airway inflammation of asthma. In asthmatic airways, loss of expression of the adhesion molecule integrin β4 (ITGB4) and an increase in Th2 inflammation bias has been observed in our previous study. Given that...

Type 2 Innate Lymphoid Cells: Friends or Foes—Role in Airway Allergic Inflammation and Asthma

Innate-like lymphocytes (ILLs) and innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) are two newly characterized families of lymphocytes with limited and no rearranged antigen receptors, respectively. These soldiers provide a first line of defense against foreign insults by triggering a prompt innate immune response and bridging the gap of innate and adaptive immunity. Type 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILCs2) are newly...

Biphasic Epithelial Predominant Synovial Sarcoma Presenting as Painful Thigh Mass

Synovial sarcomas are soft tissue neoplasms mostly located in the lower extremities of young adults. A case of synovial sarcoma of the thigh in a 35-year-old male with the predominant epithelial component is reported. Microscopically the tumor showed variable-sized well-differentiated glands lined by the cuboidal cells with small foci of spindle cell component between glandular structures...

Environmental and occupational respiratory diseases – 1056. Enhancement of sensitivity for human airway epithelial cells to house dust mites by respiratory syncytial virus infection

Background Airway is one of the main routes for allergen exposure and entering airborne allergens through the airway can initiate allergic responses, resulting in development of allergic asthma. There are various environmental factors that also influence to the airway-mediated immune responses. Among the factors, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) enables the condition of the airway to change be...
