An Efficient Recovery Algorithm for Coverage Hole in WSNs

چکیده
Failures are inevitable in wireless sensor networks, and it is important to detect and patch the “coverage hole”. In this paper, we propose an efficient recovery algorithm based on minimum distance redundant nodes. By numerical algorithm, the sink node gets the centre of the “coverage hole”, and then wakes up a redundant node, which has the minimum distance to the centre, to recover the hole. Simulation results demonstrate that, by choosing appropriate number of redundant nodes, this algorithm will have great recovery accuracy and coverage quality, also achieve the purpose of prolonging the lifecycle of WSNs.

Wireless sensor networks have been widely considered as one of the most important 21th century technologies and are used in so many applications such as environmental monitoring, security and surveillance. Wireless sensor networks are used when it is not possible or convenient to supply signaling or power supply wires to a wireless sensor node. The wireless sensor node must be battery powered.C...
متن کاملAn Energy Efficient Clustering Method using Bat Algorithm and Mobile Sink in Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consist of sensor nodes with limited energy. Energy efficiency is an important issue in WSNs as the sensor nodes are deployed in rugged and non-care areas and consume a lot of energy to send data to the central station or sink if they want to communicate directly with the sink. Recently, the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol is employed as a low-power, low-cost, and low rat...

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), certain areas of the monitoring region may have coverage holes and serious coverage overlapping due to the random deployment of sensors. The failure of electronic components, software bugs and destructive agents could lead to the random death of the nodes. Sensors may be dead due to exhaustion of battery power, which may cause the network to be uncovered and ...
