Achievable Performance Improvements Provided by Route Diversity in Multihop Wireless Networks

چکیده

When considering many paths in a multihop wireless setting, the variability of channels results in some paths providing better performance than other paths, i.e., path diversity. While it is well known that some paths are better than others, a significant number of routing protocols do not focus on selecting the optimal path. However, cooperative diversity, an area of recent interest, provides techniques to exploit path and channel diversity. Here we examine the potential performance improvement when optimal paths are used. Three settings are examined, where the path loss can be neglected, where path loss is considered, but channel correlation is not accounted for, and where path loss and channel correlation are accounted for. It is shown that path diversity can lead to dramatic improvements in performance. Performance Analysis of Wireless Cooperative Networks with Iterative Incremental Relay Selection

In this paper, an iterative incremental relay selection (IIRS) scheme is considered for wireless cooperative networks in order to increase the reliability of transmission. Different from the conventional incremental relay selection which incrementally selects a best relay for only one iteration; the IIRS scheme iteratively applies the incremental relaying and relay selection processes. To evalu...

Diversity and Adaptive Modulation & Coding Aware Routing in WLAN Multihop Networks with Centrally Scheduled Multiple Access

This thesis presents novel multihop relaying schemes capable of incorporating multihop diversity in routing calculations for centrally scheduled systems using adaptive modulation and coding. The routing algorithms can factor multihop selection combining and multihop maximal ratio combining (MRC) in digital or hybrid digital and analog relaying systems (HDAR). These diversity schemes do not requ...

Local Route Recovery Algorithms for Improving Multihop TCP Performance in Ad Hoc Wireless Networks

TCP (transmission control protocol) will for sure continue to be the major transport protocol in wireless environments, due to its large install-base in existing applications. Indeed, in future ad hoc wireless networks where devices communicate among each other over multihop routes, TCP is expected to be the prominent protocol for data exchange (e.g., multihop wireless FTP). However, there is a...

Comparison of different Broadcast Schemes for Multi-Hop Wireless Sensor Networks

In this paper, we present the performance of different broadcast schemes for multihop sensor networks based on mathematical modeling. In near future many applications will demand multicast (Broadcast) communication feature from the sensor networks. This broadcast feature does not use virtual carrier sensing but relies on physical carrier sensing to reduce collision. For this paper, we analyze t...

Distributed Cross-layer Dynamic Route Selection in Wireless Multiuser Multihop Networks

In wireless ad-hoc networks, forwarding data through intermediate relays extends the coverage area and enhances the network throughput. We consider a general wireless multiuser multihop transmission, where each data flow is subject to a constraint on the end-to-end buffering delay and the associated packet drop rate as a quality of service (QoS) requirement. The objective is to maximize the wei...
