چکیده

Recently it has been demonstrated that large phases in softly broken supersymmetric theories are allowed by electric dipole moment constraints, and are motivated in some string models. Here we consider whether large soft phases in the supersymmetry breaking sector may be the dominant (or only) source of all CP violation, and demonstrate that ǫ and ǫ/ǫ can be described. We show that in the presence of large phases the SUSY contribution to the B system can be large and dominant, leading to predictions for b → sγ, sin 2β, and sin 2α. In this framework sin 2β/ sin 2α = −1, and the unitarity triangle does not close.

The Supersymmetry Soft-breaking Lagrangian — Where Experiment and String Theory Meet∗

After an introduction recalling that we expect low energy supersymmetry to be part of our description of nature because of considerable indirect evidence and successful predictions, and a discussion of the essential role of data for formulating and testing string theory, these lectures focus on the role of the supersymmetry soft-breaking Lagrangian in connecting experiment and string theory. Ho...

On Gaugino Contributions to Soft Leptogenesis

We study the contributions to CP violation in right-handed sneutrino decays induced by soft supersymmetry-breaking gaugino masses including flavour effects and paying special attention to the role of thermal corrections. Using a field-theoretical as well as a quantum mechanical approach we compute the CP asymmetries and we conclude that for all the soft-supersymmetry breaking sources of CP viol...

Small Flavor Conserving CP Violation in Superstring Models

It is well known that supersymmetric models allow new sources for CP violation that arise from soft supersymmetry breaking terms. If unsuppressed, these new CP-violating phases would give too large a neutron electric dipole moment. We discuss a mechanism for suppressing SUSY phases in stringinspired supergravity models in which supersymmetry is assumed to be broken by the auxiliary components o...

Towards a Realistic Picture of CP Violation in Heterotic String Models

We find that dilaton dominated supersymmetry breaking and spontaneous CP violation can be achieved in heterotic string models with superpotentials singular at the fixed points of the modular group. A semi–realistic picture of CP violation emerges in such models: the CKM phase appears due to a complex VEV of the T -modulus, while the soft supersymmetric CP phases are absent due to an axionic–typ...

Can Measurements of Electric Dipole Moments Determine the Seesaw Parameters?

In the context of the supersymmetrized seesaw mechanism embedded in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), complex neutrino Yukawa couplings can induce Electric Dipole Moments (EDMs) for the charged leptons, providing an additional route to seesaw parameters. However, the complex neutrino Yukawa matrix is not the only possible source of CP violation. Even in the framework of Constrai...
