What changes in children ' s drawing procedures ? Relational complexity as aconstraint on representational
نویسندگان
چکیده
Children's ability to modify their drawing procedures changes in their rst decade. Young children make size/shape changes and end-of-sequence inser-tions/deletions of drawing elements. Older children also make middle-of-sequence insertions/deletions and position/orientation changes in drawing elements. Why do modiications occur in this order? We argue that older children's modiications require processing ternary relations, which according to a relational complexity theory, is beyond the working memory capacity of young children.

متن کاملRelationships between procedural rigidity and interrepresentational change in children's drawing behavior.
The present experiments were aimed at testing Karmiloff-Smith's (1992) assumption that representational flexibility in drawing behavior requires the relaxation of a sequential constraint. A total of two hundred and forty 5- to 9-year-old children produced cross-category drawings (e.g., a house with wings) in 4 conditions. The results indicated that procedural rigidity declined as representation...
متن کاملchildren satisfaction of nursing care by drawing
Background & Objective: Patient satisfaction is the main indicator of the quality of healthcare systems. Usually in pediatric works parents are questioned due to lack of appropriate scale. Therefore, this study was done to assess the children’s satisfaction themselves by drawing which is an applicable scale for them.Patients & methods: This study was done with 20 hospitalized children aged 6-12...
متن کاملEmotional Changes in Children Undergoing Cochlear Implantation through Evaluation of Their Drawings
Background: The emotional changes of patients undergoing cochlear implantation (CI) has been addressed in a few studies. To date, no special test has been developed to measure these changes. Objective: To measure the emotional status of children undergoing CI by interpreting their drawings. Methods: A prospective longitudinal study on prelingually deafened children from 4-14 years of age underg...

In Study 1, children passed the task at around four years, and performance was correlated with standard false belief and pictori...
