چکیده

In this study, meat quality traits were compared between Chinese lard- and European lean-type pigs. The association between expression of four genes (ADSL, GARS-AIRS-GART, DGAT1, and DECR1) and meat quality traits was also investigated. Meat quality traits were found to differ significantly between pig breeds. Meat color parameter values (a* and b*) and intramuscular fat content in Anqingliubai were significantly higher than those in Landrace (P < 0.01). Meat pH at 1 and 24 h following slaughter was significantly higher in Landrace than in Wei pigs, and meat inosine monophosphate (IMP) content was significantly higher in Landrace than in Wei and Anqingliubai pigs (both P < 0.01). Expression levels of ADSL, GARS-AIRS-GART, and DGAT1 were higher in longissimus lumborum muscle than in heart or liver tissues. ADSL and GARS-AIRS-GART expression levels were correlated with meat IMP content and pH levels. The results of this study will contribute to the understanding of meat quality traits in Chinese lard- and European lean-type pigs.

Polymorphism of the pig 2,4-dienoyl CoA reductase 1 gene (DECR1) and its association with carcass and meat quality traits.

We characterized the nearly complete coding sequence of the pig 2,4-dienoyl CoA reductase 1 (DECR1) gene, which encodes an enzyme involved in the beta-oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty enoyl-CoA esters and maps on a linoleic QTL located on Chromosome 4. Sequencing of a 937-bp fragment encompassing exons 2 and 10 revealed the existence of two missense SNP at exon 2 (C181 --> G181) and exon 5 (C...

Association of bovine meat quality traits with genes included in the PPARG and PPARGC1A networks.

Understanding which are the genetic variants underlying the nutritional and sensory properties of beef, enables improvement in meat quality. The aim of this study is to identify new molecular markers for meat quality through an association study using candidate genes included in the PPARG and PPARGC1A networks given their master role in coordinating metabolic adaptation in fat tissue, muscle an...

Measurable biomarkers linked to meat quality from different pig production systems

Biological processes underlie all livestock traits, including post-mortem meat quality traits. Biomarkers are molecular components of the biological processes showing differential expression associated with the phenotype of the trait. The phenotypes of the meat quality traits are determined by the animal’s genotype interacting with the environment affecting the expression of the genome. The “om...

A 57-gene expression signature in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

B-CLL is the most frequent type of leukemia in the Western countries. The disease, common among the elderly, follows a variable course in terms of survival time and symptoms. There is evidence that the accumulation of lymphocytes in peripheral blood and bone marrow is due to a cell resistance to apoptosis rather than to highly proliferative cells. Genetic mechanisms that lead to the development...

Association of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers in candidate genes and QTL regions with pork quality traits in commercial pigs.

Numerous reports have described genetic markers or genomic regions (QTL) associated with pork quality and/or palatability but few validation studies have been reported. Therefore, 156 SNP markers from 45 candidate genes and eight QTL regions were analyzed for association with pork quality and palatability traits from 888 pork loins. Loins were collected at three slaughter facilities and selecte...
