IBC-C: A Dataset for Armed Conflict Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe the Iraq Body Count Corpus (IBC-C) dataset, the first substantial armed conflict-related dataset which can be used for conflict analysis. IBCC provides a ground-truth dataset for conflict specific named entity recognition, slot filling, and event de-duplication. IBCC is constructed using data collected by the Iraq Body Count project which has been recording incidents from the ongoing war in Iraq since 2003. We describe the dataset’s creation, how it can be used for the above three tasks and provide initial baseline results for the first task (named entity recognition) using Hidden Markov Models, Conditional Random Fields, and Recursive Neural Networks.

متن کاملSexual violence in armed conflict: Introducing the SVAC dataset, 1989–2009
Which armed groups have perpetrated sexual violence in recent conflicts? This article presents patterns from the new Sexual Violence in Armed Conflict (SVAC) dataset. The dataset, coded from the three most widely used sources in the quantitative human rights literature, covers 129 active conflicts, and the 625 armed actors involved in these conflicts, during the period 1989–2009. The unit of ob...
متن کاملTracing armed conflicts with diachronic word embedding models
Recent studies have shown that word embedding models can be used to trace timerelated (diachronic) semantic shifts for particular words. In this paper, we evaluate some of these approaches on the new task of predicting the dynamics of global armed conflicts on a year-to-year basis, using a dataset from the field of conflict research as the gold standard and the Gigaword news corpus as the train...
متن کاملPredicting Armed Conflict, 2010–2050∗
The paper predicts changes in global and regional incidences of armed conflict for the 2010–2050 period. The predictions are based on a dynamic multinomial logit model estimation on a 1970–2009 cross-sectional dataset of changes between no armed conflict, minor conflict, and major conflict. Core exogenous predictors are population size, infant mortality rates, demographic composition, education...
