Ecological Succession: Out of the Ash

چکیده
A new study of plants recolonising the land devasted when Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980 is providing important new insights into the interactions with herbivores that determine the pattern and outcome of ecological succession.

Biostratigraphy and paleo-ecological reconstruction on Scleractinian reef corals of Rupelian-Chattian succession (Qom Formation) in northeast of Delijan area
In this research, biostratigraphy and paleo-ecological reconstruction of the Qom Formation deposits in Bijegan village, northeast ofDelijan, are discussed. The studied section is situated in the western margin of the Urumieh-Dokhtar magmatic arc (the intra-arc basin). The Qom Formation deposits at the studied area are Rupelian-Chattian in age. Larger benthic foraminifers are used for biostratigr...
متن کاملCan soda ash dumping grounds provide replacement habitats for digger wasps (Hymenoptera, Apoidea, Spheciformes)?
BACKGROUND Published sources document a loss of biodiversity at an extreme rate, mainly because natural and semi-natural ecosystems are becoming fragmented and isolated, thus losing their biological functions. These changes significantly influence biological diversity, which is a complex phenomenon that changes over time. Contemporary ecologists must therefore draw attention to anthropogenic re...
متن کاملPliocene volcanic activity of the Harrat Ash-Sham, South of Syria: geochemistry and petrogenesis
The Cenozoic volcanic activity of the Harrat Ash Sham volcanic field in south of Syria is a part of the extensive magmatism that took place in the auxiliary extension faults along the Dead Sea Fault Zone from upper Eocene to Holocene. Pliocene volcanic rocks form an important part of igneous succession in Syrian Part of Harrat as Sham. These rocks vary from basalts flows to scoria. Pliocene bas...
متن کاملEcological Succession Model
We introduce in this paper a new interacting particle system intended to model an example of ecological succession involving two species: Pteridium aquilinum L. commonly called bracken and Fagus sylvatica L. or european beech. The species both compete over vacant sites, assimilated to windfall, according to fundamentally different evolutionary strategies. Our main objective is to exhibit phase ...
متن کاملتغییر در توزیع فراوانی آشیان اکولوژیک گونههای گیاهی در طی مراحل مختلف توالی
Variation along the successional stage of a plant community is not limited to plant composition and diversity but also related to nutrient resources and plant species abundance distribution. Therefore, the use of models that consider the distribution of ecological niches in addition to the relative frequency of species in the distribution of species is also important. The object of current stud...
