چکیده

Imazapyr, metsulfuron methyl, imazapyr plus metsulfuron methyl, and hexazinone plus metsulfuron methyl were aerially applied over newly planted and l-year-old loblolly pine seedlings for the control of blackberry (Rubus species), composites (Compositae), sumac (Rhus copallina L.), and trumpet vine [Campsis radicans (L.) Seemann]. The study was installed at three locations with three replications of each treatment at each location. Imazapyr (0.375 lbs ai/A) plus metsulfuron methyl (0.063 lbs ai/A) gave the best control of sumac, blackberry, composites, and trumpet vine for 4 months after treatment. There appeared to be some synergism in the imazapyr plus metsulfuron methyl mixture against blackberry and sumac, but antagonism in the mixture of hexazinone (0.5 lbs ai/A) plus metsulfuron methyl (0.063 lbs ai/A) against blackberry. Loblolly pine seedling survival was not affected by any of the treatments tested. Minimal pine seedling damage was observed on newly planted seedlings treated with imazapyr at 0.375 lbs ai/A.

Management Factors Affecting the Establishment of Pine Based Silvopas- tures in Southern Grasslands in the United States

Silvopasture practices are being advocated as a means of maintaining pine forest acreage in the southeast United States; however, scientific data on the design and management for optimum tree growth are lacking. Studies were conducted near Booneville AR to determine the effects of weed control, irrigation, soil fertilization and protection from cattle grazing on the establishment of loblolly pi...

Production, allocation, and stemwood growth efficiency of Pinus taeda L. stands in response to 6 years of intensive management

Loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) is a highly plastic species with respect to growth responses to forest management. Loblolly pine is the most planted species across the southern United States, a region with the most expansive and intensively managed forest plantations in the world. Management intensity, using tools such as site preparation and fertilization, is increasing greatly in scope over ti...

Establishment treatments affect the relationships among nutrition, productivity and competing vegetation of loblolly pine saplings on a Gulf Coastal Plain site

After cultural treatments such as site preparation, release and fertilization, changes in the supply of mineral nutrients relative to each other and shifts in the composition of vegetation may have a delayed effect on the nutrition, carbon partitioning and growth of forest trees. This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of early management options that control vegetation and fertility...
