Anatomical Dissection: Thorax and Abdomen

چکیده
aphrodisiac, a laxative, a spice, an ingredient in candles and cosmetics, and as a medication for treating a diversity of ailments. Its reputation soon spread around the globe. In those days ambergris was picked up on beaches or found fl oating on the sea, and its origin remained a complete mystery, thus giving rise to many fanciful and hotly debated theories. In 1574 the Flemish botanist Carolus Clusius was the fi rst author to deduce from the inclusions of squid beaks in ambergris that it was the product of the digestive tract of whales. It was not until after the commencement of the American sperm whale fi shery in 1712 that it became generally recognized that ambergris was produced solely by the spermaceti whale ( Beale, 1839 ; Dannenfeldt, 1982 ). In the ensuing years ambergris was prized mainly as a fi xative for fragrances in perfumes. In the twentieth century synthetic chemicals replaced it, so it no longer has much value.

Anatomical Study of Subclavian Artery and Its Branches
Background: The branches of right and left subclavian arteries are important in conducting of blood to spinal cord, posterior cranial fossa, base of the neck, thyroid gland, wall of the thorax and abdomen. The routine use of internal thoracic artery as a conduit in coronary artery bypass grafting surgery requires appreciation of the anatomical variations of these vessels. So far, there is not a...
متن کاملEvidence of Different Thermoregulatory Mechanisms between Two Sympatric Scarabaeus Species Using Infrared Thermography and Micro-Computer Tomography
In endotherms insects, the thermoregulatory mechanisms modulate heat transfer from the thorax to the abdomen to avoid overheating or cooling in order to obtain a prolonged flight performance. Scarabaeus sacer and S. cicatricosus, two sympatric species with the same habitat and food preferences, showed daily temporal segregation with S. cicatricosus being more active during warmer hours of the d...
متن کاملPosterior approach to kidney dissection: An old surgical approach for integrated medical curricula.
Integrated medical curricular changes are altering the historical regional anatomy approach to abdominal dissection. The renal system is linked physiologically and biochemically to the cardiovascular and respiratory systems; yet, anatomists often approach the urinary system as part of the abdomen and pelvic regions. As part of an integrated curriculum, the renal system must be covered relativel...

THIS is the second of the three volumes of the twelfth edition of this popular manual to be published. The revised order of dissection now used calls for little change in the present volume. The use of the Paris Nomenclature (1955) is continued, but the more familiar terms in common British usage are retained where thought desirable. For example, the "innominate" vessels are referred to as such...
