In vivo measurements of oxygen tension in the cornea, aqueous humor, and anterior lens of the open eye.

چکیده
Measurements of oxygen profiles across the cornea, aqueous humor, and anterior lens differed from previously calculated values. The aqueous humor oxygen tension in paiticular also differed from previously measured values, being approximately 20 mm. Hg higher. Reasons for these differences are discussed. The tissue oxygen gradients measured confirm the high Qos of lenticular and corneal epithelium and cornea! endothelium. The steady itate Pot in stroma and anterior nucleus reflects the low Qos of these tissues. The profiles reaffirm the atmospheric source of oxygen to the corneal epithelium and stroma of the open eye and suggest that the corneal endothelium and anterior lens are completely nourished by the aqueous humor oxygen.

Numerical Analysis of the Thermal Interaction of Cell Phone Radiation with Human Eye Tissues
Introduction: The present study aimed to present a numerical analysis of the penetration depth, specific absorption rate (SAR), and temperature rise in various eye tissues with varying distance between radiation source and exposed human eye tissues (i.e., cornea, posterior chamber, anterior chamber, lens, sclera, vitreous humor, and iris) at frequencies of 900 and1800 MHz. Materials and Method...
متن کاملOxygen tension in the anterior chamber of the rabbit eye.
The oxygen tension in the aqueous humor in the anterior chamber of rabbit eyes was measured continuously with a polarographic electrode. The normal oxygen tension in the anterior chamber was 23 +/- 2 mm Hg (mean +/- SD, n = 4). A contact lens was then placed on the cornea for at least 10 min and the drop in oxygen tension recorded. A hard polymethylmethacrylate lens reduced the oxygen tension b...
متن کاملIn vivo aqueous humor oxygen tension--as estimated from measurements on bare stroma.
Aqueous humor oxygen tension of the in vivo rabbit eye was estimated by a relatively atraumatic procedure. The anterior corneal surface of the eye was first scraped free of its epithelial layer. A polarographic oxygen electrode was then used to measure the oxygen tension at the bare stromal surface. Aqueous humor oxygen tension can be estimated from this measured steady-state stromal surface ox...
متن کاملCytoskeletal involvement in the regulation of aqueous humor outflow.
Fluid flow in the anterior chamber maintains intraocular pressure (IOP) and globe shape and supplies oxygen and nutrients to the nonvascularized cornea, lens, and trabecular meshwork (TM). Glaucoma is a progressive optic neuropathy often caused by elevated IOP consequent to abnormally high resistance to aqueous humor drainage via the TM and Schlemm’s canal. Compounds with cytoskeletal effects o...
متن کاملOxygen distribution in the human eye: relevance to the etiology of open-angle glaucoma after vitrectomy.
PURPOSE Vitrectomy, when followed by cataract surgery, increases the risk of open-angle glaucoma. This study was conducted in patients to determine whether these procedures are associated with increased exposure of the trabecular meshwork to oxygen. METHODS Oxygen distribution was recorded with a fiberoptic probe in patients undergoing surgery for cataract, glaucoma, or retinal disease. pO(2)...
