Monte Carlo simulation of granular fluids

چکیده
An overview of recent work on Monte Carlo simulations of a granular binary mixture is presented. The results are obtained numerically solving the Enskog equation for inelastic hard-spheres by means of an extension of the wellknown direct Monte Carlo simulation (DSMC) method. The homogeneous cooling state and the stationary state reached using the Gaussian thermostat are considered. The temperature ratio, the fourth velocity moments and the velocity distribution functions are obtained for both cases. The shear viscosity characterizing the momentum transport in the thermostatted case is calculated as well. The simulation results are compared with analytical predictions showing an excellent agreement.

Kinetic Monte Carlo Simulation of Oxalic Acid Ozonationover Lanthanum-based Perovskitesas Catalysts
Kinetic Monte Carlo simulation was applied to investigation of kinetics and mechanism of oxalic acid degradation by direct and heterogeneous catalytic ozonation. La-containing perovskites including LaFeO3, LaNiO3, LaCoO3 and LaMnO3 was studied as catalyst for oxalic acid ozonation. The reaction kinetic mechanisms of each abovementioned catalytic systems has been achieved. The rate constants val...
متن کاملMixing and Segregation of Granular Materials
Granular materials segregate. Small differences in either size or density lead to flow-induced segregation, a complex phenomenon without parallel in fluids. Modeling of mixing and segregation processes requires the confluence of several tools, including continuum and discrete descriptions (particle dynamics, Monte Carlo simulations, cellular automata computations) and, often, considerable geome...
متن کاملA combined scheme based on parallel and grid computing for the simulation of granular fluids
A granular gas is a large collection of (mesoscopic or macroscopic) particles which collide inelastically and are usually kept in a state of continuous agitation. Apart from their interest in industrial and technological applications, granular gases are important at a fundamental level as physical systems intrinsically out of equilibrium and thus exhibiting a wide spectrum of complex behaviour ...
متن کاملDilatancy Transition in a Granular Model
We introduce a model of granular matter and use a volume/strain ensemble to analyze infinitesimal shearing. Monte Carlo simulation suggests the model exhibits a second order phase transition associated with the onset of dilatancy.
