Diffraction from a moving grating

چکیده
A first-principles tutorial account is given for the diffraction of either light or free, non-relativistic, massive particles from a moving grating. Discussion on the properties of the moving grating including non-reciprocity is followed by considering both Raman-Nath (thin grating) diffraction and Bragg (thick grating) diffraction in either transmission or reflection geometry. Use of four-momentum conservation with dispersion relations yield the angles of diffraction. The increase in the angle of diffraction for grazing incident by using a moving grating relative to using a static grating is calculated. It is shown that this increase is possible only for Raman-Nath geometry.

Resonant diffraction radiation from an ultrarelativistic particle moving close to a tilted grating.
A simple model for calculating the diffraction radiation characteristics from an ultrarelativistic charged particle moving close to a tilted ideally conducting strip is developed. Resonant diffraction radiation (RDR) is treated as a superposition of the radiation fields for periodically spaced strips. The RDR characteristics have been calculated as a function of the number of grating elements, ...
متن کامل1 3 A ug 2 00 1 Superradiance in volume diffraction grating ⋆
To simulate VFEL operation the superradiance from a short electron pulse moving in a volume diffraction grating is studied. It is supposed that Bragg condition for emitted photons is fulfilled and dynamical diffraction takes place. Spectral-angular distributions for transmitted and diffracted waves are derived. It is shown that the optimal geometry for superradiance exists and it is determined ...
متن کاملUsing a moving diffraction grating to simulate the function of an acousto-optic modulator
We present an instructional undergraduate laboratory that introduces the student to an acousto-optic modulator (AOM) in the context of an optical heterodyning experiment. A moving diffraction grating is used to illustrate the internal functioning of an acousto-optic modulator and to make optical heterodyning experiments accessible to any undergraduate laboratory. The concepts and techniques pre...
متن کاملDistributed Reflector Structure and Diffraction Grating Structure in the Solar Cell
Today, due to qualitative growth and scientific advances, energy, especially electricity is increasingly needed by human society. One of the almost endless and pure energy which have been paid attention over the years is the solar energy. Solar cells directly convert solar energy into electrical energy and are one of the main blocks of photovoltaic systems. Significant improvement has been made...
متن کاملGravitational diffraction radiation
We show that if the visible universe is a membrane embedded in a higher-dimensional space, particles in uniform motion radiate gravitational waves because of spacetime lumpiness. This phenomenon is analogous to the electromagnetic diffraction radiation of a charge moving near to a metallic grating. In the gravitational case, the role of the metallic grating is played by the inhomogeneities of t...
