Optimal topologies for micropolar solids

چکیده
1. Abstract Micropolar field theory represents an extension of the classical Cauchy continuum theory. In this paper, a topology optimization procedure for maximum stiffness is applied to structural elements made of micropolar (Cosserat) solids. Some special problems are dealt with, and particular attention is given to models that refer to structural interfaces. The results are in good agreement with the real behavior of some biological tissues. 2.

Reflection and Transmission of Plane Waves at Micropolar Piezothermoelastic Solids
The present investigation analysis a problem of reflection and transmission at an interface of two micropolar orthotropic piezothermoelastic media. The basic equations and constitutive relations for micropolar orthotropic piezothermoelastic media for G-L theory are derived. The expressions for amplitude ratios corresponding to reflected and transmitted waves are derived analytically. The eff...
متن کاملChiral effect in plane isotropic micropolar elasticity and its application to chiral lattices
In continuummechanics, the non-centrosymmetric micropolar theory is usually used to capture the chirality inherent in materials. However, when reduced to a two dimensional (2D) isotropic problem, the resulting model becomes non-chiral. Therefore, influence of the chiral effect cannot be properly characterized by existing theories for 2D chiral solids. To circumvent this difficulty, based on rei...
متن کاملThird-rank piezoelectricity in isotropic chiral solids
The highest symmetry in which piezoelectricity was thought to occur is cubic. Here it is shown that third rank piezoelectricity can occur in isotropic chiral solids. Polarization is coupled via an isotropic third rank tensor to the antisymmetric part of the stress. Asymmetric stress can occur if balanced by moments distributed over area or volume. Such moments occur in heterogeneous solids in w...
متن کاملOptimal Combined and Adaptive Protection of Active Distribution Networks Considering Different System Topologies Incorporating Optimal Selection of Standard Relay Curves
The change in the topology of active distribution networks (ADNs) is one of the essential challenges that might affect the protection schemes. The conventional protection schemes based on base topology result in some coordination constraint violations in other topologies due to the outage of upstream substations and distributed generation units. In this article, new combinational and adaptive p...
