چکیده
While at Ursinus Norm set a goal to become a professor and upon graduation he accepted a teaching assistantship from the Division of Mathematical Sciences at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. During his first term he met his wife Barbara (also a TA) in an Abstract Algebra class. Barbara was a secondary school mathematics teacher until their two children were born. She now teaches part time for Ball State's Department of Mathematical Sciences. Their daughter Karen is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and is employed by Nationwide Insurance in Columbus, Ohio and until recently Jennifer was a systems analyst at BTI (an integrated communications provider) in North Carolina’s research triangle.

The Push to Make Software Engineering Respectable
S oftware engineering (SE) is maturing as a discipline and profession, but three decades after the first NATO Conference on Software Engineering, it is still not regarded as a legitimate , respectable engineering profession. In 1995, Gary Ford and Norman Gibbs of the Software Engineering Institute evaluated what it means for a profession to be mature and how SE was doing. 1 Their extensive and ...
متن کاملDynamical formation control of wheeled mobile robots based on fuzzy logic
In this paper, the important formation control problem of nonholonomic wheeled mobile robots is investigated via a leader-follower strategy. To this end, the dynamics model of the considered wheeled mobile robot is derived using Lagrange equations of motion. Then, using ADAMS multi-body simulation software, the obtained dynamics of the wheeled system in MATLAB software is verified. After that, ...
متن کاملThe new context for software engineering education and training
The ‘‘software crisis’’ of the last decade was characterized as one of low programmer productivity and poor software quality Gibbs, 1994. This description was a shot across the bow for computer science educators, who shared the blame for the fact that their graduates were performing poorly. Then arose a severe shortage of software professionals––perhaps partly because of their low productivity ...
متن کاملRequirements Engineering: a close look at industry needs and a model curricula
Research endeavours in software development have found that failures and deficiencies of software systems are often rooted in the requirements activities undertaken. One possible cause for poor requirements activities is the appropriateness of the education of those engaged with the requirements component of software development. This education is largely based on model curricula used as guidel...
متن کاملSoftware ENgineering Simplifying Itai-Rodeh Leader Election for Anonymous Rings
We present two probabilistic leader election algorithms for anonymous unidirectional rings with FIFO channels, based on an algorithm from Itai and Rodeh [20]. In contrast to the Itai-Rodeh algorithm, our algorithms are finite-state. So they can be analyzed using explicit state space exploration; we used the probabilistic model checker PRISM to verify, for rings up to size four, that eventually ...
