Making Visual Programming Accessible to the Blind
نویسندگان
چکیده
The proliferation of graphical user interfaces has had a dramatic impact on the ability of the blind to work as programmers. It is particularly difficult for the blind to design forms for programs written in Visual Basic. A scripting language is introduced that enables the blind to create Visual Basic forms without the need to specify all the detailed information that Visual Basic requires and without the “point and click” approach that the blind cannot use. The syntax of the language is described and future plans, including the expansion of the language and testing are discussed.

Making Visual Maps Accessible to the Blind
Visual maps deliver content in a simple and effective way. They can be useful for various purposes in areas such as street guidance, surrounding information, and education. However, sightless persons are unable to explore visual maps and risk being cut off from several multimedia Web applications. In this paper, starting from accessibility issues of map-based applications, we discuss possible i...

متن کاملMaking Brainstorming Meetings Accessible for Blind Users
Co-located meetings, as a fundamental part of our professional and educational lives heavily rely on visual information. In such meetings visual information consists of a) the artifact or “content” part (as for instance in brainstorming meetings the mind maps) and b) of nonverbal communication elements (like deictic gestures and gazes). Blind persons to a large extent do not have access to thes...
متن کاملColor improves “visual” acuity via sound
Visual-to-auditory sensory substitution devices (SSDs) convey visual information via sound, with the primary goal of making visual information accessible to blind and visually impaired individuals. We developed the EyeMusic SSD, which transforms shape, location, and color information into musical notes. We tested the "visual" acuity of 23 individuals (13 blind and 10 blindfolded sighted) on the...
متن کاملAre current insulin pumps accessible to blind and visually impaired people?
BACKGROUND In 2004, Uslan and colleagues determined that insulin pumps (IPs) on the market were largely inaccessible to blind and visually impaired persons. The objective of this study is to determine if accessibility status changed in the ensuing 4 years. METHODS Five IPs on the market in 2008 were acquired and analyzed for key accessibility traits such as speech and other audio output, tact...
