Locking - free adaptive mixed nite
نویسنده
چکیده
Mixed nite element methods such as PEERS or the BDMS methods are designed to avoid locking for nearly incompressible materials in plane elasticity. In this paper, we establish a robust adaptive mesh-reening algorithm that is rigorously based on a reliable and eecient a posteriori error estimate. Numerical evidence is provided for the-independence of the constants in the a posteriori error bounds and for the eeciency of the adaptive mesh-reening algorithm proposed.

Locking and Robustness in the Nite Element Method for Circular Arch Problem
In this paper we discuss locking and robustness of the nite element method for a model circular arch problem. It is shown that in the primal variable (i.e., the standard displacement formulation), the p-version is free from locking and uniformly robust with order p ?k and hence exhibits optimal rate of convergence. On the other hand, the h-version shows locking of order h ?2 , and is uniformly ...

متن کاملA Locking Free Mixed Finite Element Method for the Koiter Shell Model
The Koiter shell model is widely used in the existing research and commercial codes. But for shells with very small thickness, membrane locking is expected. In this paper we propose a locking free mixed nite element method for the Koiter shell model. Beside the primitive unknowns, namely the displacements in the tangential and transversal directions, the membrane stresses are introduced as inde...
متن کاملOn the Selection of a Locking-free hp Element for Elasticity Problems
We consider the design of robust elements that can be used in hp codes for elasticity problems. Our goal is to identify an element that is free of locking for the case of a nearly incompressible material, both in terms of the h version and the p version. By this we mean that the displacements as well as the stresses should converge optimally. For the standard nite element method, locking is obs...
متن کاملA Locking-Free Finite Element Method for Naghdi Shells
In this paper a locking-free method, using mixed nite elements, is introduced to approximate the soluton of Naghdi shell problems with small parameter t, the thickness of the shell. The approach of Arnold and Brezzi 1] is employed with some important changes. Instead of proving the discrete Inf-Sup condition for arbitrary geometric coeecients, which does not seem possible, we prove a weaker sta...
