Closed reduction and fixation of high-energy femoral neck fractures: Still a viable surgical treatment option
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Femoral neck fracture causes disability if not treated properly and high-energy fractures usually have increased complication rates. Does closed reduction and internal fixation of femoral neck high energy fractures have increased complication rates? Methods: We used closed reduction and internal fixation using 3 cannulated cancellous screws. There were 67 patients (39 male, 28 female) included in the study. Mean age was 46.5 years (18-75). All femoral neck fractures were secondary to high energy trauma. There were 12 type I, 18 type II, 32 type III, 5 type IV fractures according to Garden classification. Results: Complications were as 1 long screw penetrating through the joint, changed with a shorter one, 1 initial failure, 3 nonunion and 3 avascular necrosis, converted to hemiarthroplasty. Conclusions: Closed reduction and internal fixation is not inferior to open reduction and internal fixation with low complication rates.

Long-Term Follow-Up Results of Delayed Fixation of Femoral Neck Fractures in Adults
BACKGROUND Femoral neck fractures are urgent injuries that require precise reduction and stable fixation. In some cases, however, early treatment is not possible. OBJECTIVES The present study aimed to evaluate long-term results of delayed fixation of femoral neck fractures using cannulated screws. PATIENTS AND METHODS This retrospective descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 26 patie...
متن کاملOutcome of Closed and Open Reduction with Cross Pinning Fixation, for Displaced Supracondylar Humeral Fracture
ABSTRACT Introduction: In areas where intraoperative radiography facilities are not available, open reduction is an acceptable treatment option for fracture treatment. The aim of this investigation was to compare the outcomes of closed reduction to open reduction with cross-pinning fixation in Gartland Type III supracondylar humeral fracture extensions. Methods: In this retrospective study, clo...
متن کاملClinical Results of Percutaneous Fixation of Pelvic and Acetabular Fractures: A Minimally Invasive Internal Fixation Technique
Background: The pelvic ring fractures (PRF) and acetabular fractures (AF) are among the major orthopedic injuriesassociated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Open surgical stabilization is the standard treatment for themajority of these complications. Percutaneous minimally invasive surgical stabilization of the fractures has become anaccepted treatment method for th...
متن کاملInjuries Associated with Femoral Shaft Fractures with Special Emphasis on Occult Injuries
Background: Fractures of the femoral shaft are mostly the result of high-energy accidents that also cause multiple trauma injuries, in particular ipsilateral knee and hip injuries. The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence of injuries associated with femoral shaft fractures and how many of them were undetected. Methods: We studied 148 patients (150 femoral shaft fractures) wi...
متن کاملOperative treatment of acute distal femur fractures: systematic review of 2 comparative studies and 45 case series (1989 to 2005).
BACKGROUND The incidence of distal femur fractures is approximately 37 per 100,000 person-years. Typically, distal femur fractures are caused by a high-energy injury mechanism in young men or a low-energy mechanism in elderly women. Managing these fractures can be a challenging task. Most surgeons agree that distal femur fractures need to be treated operatively to achieve optimal patient outcom...
