Imaging Findings of Sacral Tumors

چکیده
canal tumors and, most commonly, metastases. The most common primary malignant bone tumor is chordoma, and the second most common is giant cell tumor. The presence of multiple lesions involving the sacrum and other bones suggests metastasis or multiple myeloma. Although the imaging findings of sacral tumors are nonspecific, a patient’s age and sex, and specific findings such as calcification or fluid-fluid levels, can help radiologists determine the differential diagnosis. The imaging findings may overlap, however, in which case the final diagnosis can be determined by biopsy. We illustrate the imaging findings of primary sacral tumors, emphasizing the MRI findings. Cutaneous Metastasis from Sacral Chordoma: A Case Report
Chordoma is a malignant, slow growing and locally aggressive tumor. It arises from remnants of the notochord and accounts for 1–4% of all primary bone tumors. They usually arise from anywhere along the spine, from base of the skull to the sacrococcygeal area and usually do not metastasize. Chordomas are slow-growing tumors which are not responsive to conventional chemotherapy or radiation. They...
متن کاملModified Kraske Procedure with Mid-Sacrectomy and Coccygectomy for En Bloc Excision of Sacral Giant Cell Tumors
Sacral giant cell tumors are rare neoplasms, histologically benign but potentially very aggressive due to the difficulty in achieving a complete resection, their high recurrence rate, and metastization capability. Although many treatment options have been proposed, en bloc excision with tumor-free margins seems to be the most effective, being associated with long term tumor control, improved ou...

Myeloid sarcoma initially occurring in the sacral canal is often misdiagnosed as other pathological tumors on MRI due to the lack of a definite history or clinical evidence of granulocytic leukemia. Here, we report a case of 24-year-old male patient with myeloid sarcoma misdiagnosed radiologically. On MRI, sacral myeloid sarcoma is characterized by homogeneous signal intensity, marked enhanceme...
متن کاملGelfoam embolization or 125I seed implantation may be a more effective treatment than surgical treatment for giant benign sacral neurogenic tumors
BACKGROUND The goal of the present study was to assess the effects of computed tomography (CT)-guided iodine-125 (125I) seed implantation or gelatin sponge particle (GSP) embolization on patients with giant benign sacral neurogenic tumors. METHODS A total of 24 cases with giant sacral neurogenic tumor were performed in a retrospective study between 2000 and 2012. Nineteen cases received surgi...

In this study, l-131-MIBG imaging was performed in 44 patients with clinical suspicion of tumors originating from neuro-endocrine system. The patients were referred to our department following plasma and urinary measurement of epinephrine, norepinehrine and vanilmandelic acidfVMA). Radionuclide imaging was performel as a comparative or confirmatory measure in all patients who had previous...
