Modeling the Macro-Behavior of Learning Object Repositories

چکیده

Learning Object Repositories (LOR) are the result of the activity of hundreds or thousands of contributing individuals. It has been shown in Ochoa & Duval, 2009 that LOR have an interesting macro-behavior, mostly governed by long-tailed distributions. The shape of these distributions provides valuable information for the management and operation of LORs. However, the reason why these distributions appear is not known. This work proposes a simple model to explain this macro-behavior the consequence of the very simple micro-behavior of individual contributors, more specifically their number, production rate and lifetime in the repository. This model is formally presented and successfully validated against data from existing LORs. While simple, this model seems to explain most of the largescale measurements in function of the small-scale interactions. Finally, this work discusses the implications that this model has in the planning and maintenance of new and existing LORs.

A Macro-model for Nonlinear Analysis of 3D Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls

Architectural limitations in many situations make it necessary for the RC shear walls to be extended in plan in different directions at a single location that makes them a 3D configuration. Analysis of such walls is very challenging. In this research about 450 cases of 3D shear walls are considered with different shapes and heights. L, T and H-shape walls are studied. They are nonlinearly analy...

Application of Combined Local Object Based Features and Cluster Fusion for the Behaviors Recognition and Detection of Abnormal Behaviors

In this paper, we propose a novel framework for behaviors recognition and detection of certain types of abnormal behaviors, capable of achieving high detection rates on a variety of real-life scenes. The new proposed approach here is a combination of the location based methods and the object based ones. First, a novel approach is formulated to use optical flow and binary motion video as the loc...

Geronimo’s Cadillac: Lessons for Learning Object Repositories

Much of the work into learning objects and repositories work has, to date, been driven by the philosophical and technical considerations of metadata, ontologies, semantics, user-modelling, architecture, interoperability and standardization issues etc. This work is very important. However, this paper discusses the importance of understanding the context of application for learning object reposit...

Reusable Learning Objects: Designing Metadata Management Systems supporting Interoperable Learning Object Repositories

Metadata can significantly assist in effectively accessing and managing learning objects. Currently, there are many systems which are intended to collect, share and reuse distributed learning objects, presenting the end-user with a uniform interface to search, access and evaluate these resources. On the other hand, although a generally accepted international standard for describing educational ...

User Behavior in Learning Objects Repositories: An Empirical Analysis

This paper investigates the ways in which users interact with Learning Objects Repositories (LORs) such as ARIADNE, MERLOT and SMETE when searching for relevant learning objects. More specifically, we focus on the ways users search the ARIADNE Knowledge Pool System (KPS). Our analysis is based on the log files of queries. We investigate user behavior and compare it with the behavior of the inde...
