چکیده

With the advent of wireless microsensors and other microscale applications, switching supplies fully integrated on chip or into the package are desirable and often necessary. The problem with small inductors is that they exhibit low inductance and larger equivalent series resistance (ESR); in other words, they induce larger ripples in the output and higher conduction power losses. This brief presents and verifies a current-ripple suppression technique in which a discrete 2 × 2 × 1 mm 4.7-μH inductor is effectively multiplied by subtracting a replica of the inductor’s ac ripple current, allowing only a residual ripple to reach the output. Experimental results from a complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor integrated circuit prototype demonstrate a currentand output-ripple reduction of 10.8× and 25.8×, respectively. The ESR power savings in the smaller inductor favorably offset the quiescent power lost in the multiplier (128 mW), outperforming its higher nonmultiplied 47-μH counterpart at high loads (above 250 mA).

A High Efficiency Low-Voltage Soft Switching DC–DC Converter for Portable Applications

This paper presents a novel control method to improve the efficiency of low-voltage DC-DC converters at light loads. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) converters have poor efficiencies at light loads, while pulse frequency modulation (PFM) control is more efficient for the same cases. Switching losses constitute a major portion of the total power loss at light loads. To decrease the switching losses...

A Study on Feedforward Technique in CMOS OTA Circuits

In this paper, a study in terms of gain, unity gain frequency of operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) using feedforward technique with FDCM has been carried out. OTA having feedforward technique with FDCM shows gain of 68 dB at 1nA bias current and 10 KHz 1GHz unity gain frequency characteristics. The input bias current from 1nA to 1mA has been varied for study. The CMOS OTA has been ...

A 2-Vpp 80–200-MHz Fourth-Order Continuous-Time Linear Phase Filter With Automatic Frequency Tuning

A CMOS 80–200-MHz fourth-order continuous-time 0.05 equiripple linear phase filter with an automatic frequency tuning system is presented. An operational transconductance amplifier based on transistors operating in triode region is used and a circuit that combines common-mode feedback, common-mode feedforward, and adaptive bias is introduced. The chip was fabricated in a 0.35m process; filter e...

Power Estimation for Ripple-Carry Adders with Correlated Input Data

In this work modelling of the power consumption for ripple-carry adders implemented in CMOS is considered. Based on the switching activity of each input bit, two switching models, one full and one simplified, are derived. These switching models can be used to derive the average energy consumed for one computation. This work extends previous results by introducing a data dependent power model, i...

A New Topology of Bidirectional Buck-Boost dc/dc Converter with Capability of Soft Switching and input Current Ripple Cancellation

In this paper, a new bidirectional buck-boost dc-dc converter with capability of soft switching and zero input current ripple is proposed. The coupled inductor is used in the proposed converter to eliminate the input current ripple. In the proposed converter, zero voltage switching (ZVS) and zero current switching (ZCS) can be obtained for the main and auxiliary switches, respectively. In addit...
