On Frequency Weighted Balanced Truncation: Hankel Singular Values and Error Bounds

چکیده
Tlie concept of frequencj iveighted balancing proposed b j Enns is a generalisation of internally balanced model rrur~cation irhich is sin~ple to app!, and additionally attracti~e because of the existence o fan upper H , error bolrrid rlirrt is a function of the neglected Hankelsingular values. However, a generalisatiol~ of this error bound basedon the frequency ireiglited Haf~kelsingular values has not been reported. 111 this paper, it is shown that there does nor exist a frequency weighted upper error borrrzd that depends o n k on the r~eglected jkequency iveighred Haf~ke l singular values. Based on tl~is result, it is shoien that trrtncarion of the states corresponding to the loirestf, equency weighted Hankelsingular values does not always yield the lowest approximation error. It is explained that this is due to cross-terms that appear in the frequency 117eigIited error bound and rnake the discussion on stability of the reduced order model more cornplex. These cross-terms are inherent in the frequency iveighted balancing technique proposed by Enns.

Bounded real and positive real balanced truncation using Σ-normalised coprime factors
In this paper we will extend the method of balanced truncation using normalised right coprime factors of the system transfer matrix by Meyer [7] to balanced truncation with preservation of half line dissipativity. Special cases are preservation of positive realness and bounded realness. We consider a half line dissipative input-output system, with quadratic supply rate given by a nonsingular sy...
متن کاملModel reduction of interconnected linear systems
The problem of model reduction of linear systems with certain interconnection structure is considered in this paper. To preserve the interconnection structure between subsystems in the reduction, special care needs to be taken. This problem is important and timely because of the recent focus on complex networked systems in control engineering. Two different model-reduction methods are introduce...
متن کاملBalanced Truncation Model Reduction for Semidiscretized Stokes Equation
We discuss model reduction of linear continuous-time descriptor systems that arise in the control of semidiscretized Stokes equations. Balanced truncation model reduction methods for descriptor systems are presented. These methods are closely related to the proper and improper controllability and observability Gramians and Hankel singular values of descriptor systems. The Gramians can be comput...
متن کاملWeighted Hankel-norm approximation: Calculation of bounds
In [I], a method was given for optimal Hankel-norm approximation with frequency weighting. In a broad sense, this method stands in the same relation to frequency-weighted balanced approximation [2] as unweighted optimal Hankel-norm approximation stands in relation to unweighted balanced approximation, see, e.g. [3]. No bounds were given in [I] on the frequency-domain error associated with frequ...
متن کاملOn the decay rate of Hankel singular values and related issues
This paper investigates the decay rate of the Hankel singular values of linear dynamical systems. This issue is of considerable interest in model reduction by means of balanced truncation, for instance, since the sum of the neglected singular values provides an upper bound for an appropriate norm of the approximation error. The decay rate involves a new set of invariants associated with a linea...
