SAW, KENZO. Sweat induction from an isolated eccrine sweat gland. Am. J. Physiol. 225(5) : 1147-l 152. 1973.-A method has been developed for in vitro induction of sweating from an isolated monkey-palm eccrine sweat gland. The validity of the new methodology is shown in the following results. MecholyLinduced sweating was completely inhibited by atropine and by cooling the incubation medium to 4 C. Ouabain inhibited both sweat secretion and sodium reabsorption. Sweat samples collected from the end of the proximal duct had a sodium concentration from 20 to 90 mM and a potassium concentration from 5 to 18 mM, whereas samples collected directly from the isolated secretory coil contained both SOdium and potassium in concentrations isotonic to the incubation medium; the results are consistent with the previous studies of others with micropuncture techniques. Epinephrine was shown to induce sweat secretion comparable in both secretory rate and SOdium and potassium concentrations to those of Mecholyl-induced sweat. An attempt was made to estimate the transport rate of the secretory coil expressedL in terms of tubular length. Volume flux from 3 to 4.7 x 10W7 cm3/cm-set thus calculated was approximately half as much as that of the rat kidney proximal tubule.

F-18 FDG PET/CT Imaging of Eccrine Sweat Gland Carcinoma of the Scrotum with Extensive Regional and Distant Metastases
Eccrine carcinoma is an extremely rare malignant skin cancer arising from eccrine sweat glands with a high metastatic potential. It mainly occurs in the elderly, with equal incidence in both sexes. It usually spreads to regional lymph nodes, with liver, lungs, and bones being the most common sites of distant metastasis. Because of tumor rarity, little is known about the value of F18- FDG PET/CT...
متن کاملEccrine poroma and porocarcinoma on the same unusual location: report on two cases*
Eccrine poroma is a benign adnexal tumour of the uppermost portion of the intraepidermal eccrine sweat gland duct and acrosyringium. Eccrine porocarcinoma is the malignant phenotype arising from the intraepidermal portion of the eccrine sweat gland duct epithelium or from pre-existing eccrine poroma. Both commonly occur in the palms or sides of the feet; these areas have a high concentration of...
متن کاملPAR-2 receptor-induced effects on human eccrine sweat gland cells.
Serine proteases can induce cell signaling by stimulating G-protein-coupled receptors, called proteinase-activated receptors (PAR's) on a variety of epithelial cells. While PAR-2, one such receptor, activates cell signaling in a secretory cell line derived from human sweat glands, there was no information on their presence and effects on intact sweat glands. PAR-2 presence and activation of ecc...
متن کاملThe primary culture of epithelia from the secretory coil and collecting duct of normal human and cystic fibrotic eccrine sweat glands.
Isolated human eccrine sweat glands have been microdissected into their secretory and reabsorptive components. Complete separation of these epithelia was confirmed by differential uptake of Neutral Red stain by an intermediate section of gland containing the junction between the secretory coil and the collecting duct. Primary cultures were obtained from explants of both tissues in medium RPMI-1...
متن کاملA novel organotypic 3D sweat gland model with physiological functionality
Dysregulated human eccrine sweat glands can negatively impact the quality-of-life of people suffering from disorders like hyperhidrosis. Inability of sweating can even result in serious health effects in humans affected by anhidrosis. The underlying mechanisms must be elucidated and a reliable in vitro test system for drug screening must be developed. Here we describe a novel organotypic three-...
