چکیده

This paper presents an elastic demand extension of the fixed-demand simultaneous routeand-departure choice dynamic user equilibrium model originally presented in Friesz et al. (1993). Although Friesz et al. (2011) show that analysis and computation of dynamic user equilibrium with constant travel demand is tremendously simplified by stating it as a a differential variational inequality (DVI), they do not discuss how elastic demand may be accommodated within a DVI framework. The DVI formulation of elastic demand DUE (E-DUE) is not straightforward. In this paper, we advance knowledge of E-DUE in its mathematical formulation, existence, and computation. We first present an infinite-dimensional variational inequality formulation in a Hilbert space using measure-theoretic argument. Existence result for such variational inequality is show by invoking a version of Brouwer’s fixed point theorem (Browder, 1968). Finally, we employ the mathematical paradigm of differential variational inequality to formally establish a fixed point formulation of E-DUE in an extended Hilbert ∗The complete work is reported in two papers available at http://arxiv.org/abs/1304.5286 and http://arxiv.org/abs/1305.1276

Simultaneous Decentralized Competitive Supply Chain Network Design under Oligopoly Competition

This paper discusses a problem in which  decentralized supply chains enter the market simultaneously with no existing rival chains, shape the supply chains’ networks, and set wholesale and retail prices in a noncooperative manner. All the chains produce either identical or highly substitutable products. Customer demand is elastic and price-dependent. A three-step algorithm is proposed to solve ...

On the Relationship Between Supply Chain and Transportation Network Equilibria: A Supernetwork Equivalence with Computations

In this paper, we consider the relationship between supply chain network equilibrium and transportation network equilibrium. We demonstrate that a supply chain network equilibrium model introduced earlier can be reformulated as a transportation network equilibrium model with elastic demands through a supernetwork reformulation of the former. This equivalence allows us to transfer the wealth of ...

Quasi-variational inequality formulation of the mixed equilibrium in multiclass routing games

In the modeling of competition on networks it is usually assumed that users either behave following the Wardrop equilibrium or the Nash equilibrium concept. Nevertheless, in several equilibrium situations, for instance in urban traffic flows, intercity freight flows and telecommunication networks, a mixed behavior is observed. This paper presents a time-dependent network model shared by two typ...

Sensitivity Analysis of Traffic Equilibria

T contribution of the paper is a complete analysis of the sensitivity of elastic demand traffic (Wardrop) equilibria. The existence of a directional derivative of the equilibrium solution (link flow, least travel cost, demand) in any direction is given a characterization, and the same is done for its gradient. The gradient, if it exists, is further interpreted as a limiting case of the gradient...

Supply chain networks, electronic commerce, and supply side and demand side risk

Abstract: In this paper, we develop a supply chain network model in which both physical and electronic transactions are allowed and in which supply side risk as well as demand side risk are included in the formulation. The model consists of three tiers of decision-makers: the manufacturers, the distributors, and the retailers, with the demands associated with the retail outlets being random. We...
