Few-body approach to diffraction of small helium clusters by nanostructures

چکیده
We use few-body methods to investigate the diffraction of weakly bound systems by a transmission grating. For helium dimers, He2, we obtain explicit expressions for the transition amplitude in the elastic channel. 1

Observation of mixed fermionic-bosonic helium clusters by transmission grating diffraction.
Small weakly bound boson-fermion 4He(m) 3He(n) clusters formed in a free jet expansion are identified using nondestructive transmission grating diffraction. The observations confirm the existence of more than 11 very tenuous complexes including the three-body halo molecule 4He2 3He and the pseudo-Borromean complex 4He2 3He2. Effective cluster formation temperatures, extracted from a sudden free...

Expansions of n -butane from small nozzles were observed to generate large clusters, provided that enough helium or neon carrier gas accompanied the butane to remove the heat of condensation rapidly and to produce low temperatures. Although expansions of neat n -butane led to substantial conformational cooling under some circumstances, clusters were never seen without carrier gas. Both thin-pla...
متن کاملA STUDY OF SMALL VACANCY CLUSTERS IN IRON USING MANY BODY POTENTIAL
Computer simulation techniques are employed to obtain binding energies of 2,3 and 4 vacancy clusters in a -iron using the Finnis Sinclair many body potential. The results are compared with earlier pair potential calculations. The many body potential is found to be quite successful in simulating vacancy clusters
متن کاملPairwise and many-body contributions to interaction potentials in He(n) clusters
High level ab initio calculations have been carried out to assess the pairwise additivity of potentials in the attractive or well regions of the potential surfaces of clusters of helium atoms. A large basis set was employed and calculations were done at the Brueckner orbital coupled cluster level. Differences between calculated potentials for several interacting atoms and the corresponding summ...
متن کاملElectron diffraction studies of supersonic jets. II. Formation of benzene clusters
Expansions of benzene at 1-10 mol % in neon or helium with various nozzle types have produced clusters of benzene molecules. Preliminary comparisons with intensities from the bulk liquid and with model calculations based on solid state crystal structures suggest that on the average the clusters are probably considerably larger than a 13 molecule unit, and have a vibrational temperature on the o...
