Do foot orthoses change lower limb muscle activity in people with flat-arched feet towards a pattern observed in those with normal-arched feet?

چکیده
Background Various foot orthoses have been shown to alter tibialis anterior and peroneus longus electromyographic (EMG) muscle activity during walking. However, it is unclear whether these changes represent optimisation in muscle function. Therefore, two studies were conducted to determine; (i) whether people with flat-arched feet display altered muscle activity compared to those with normal-arched feet during gait and (ii) whether foot orthoses change muscle activity in people with flatarched feet towards a pattern observed in those with normal-arched feet.

Foot posture influences the electromyographic activity of selected lower limb muscles during gait
BACKGROUND Some studies have found that flat-arched foot posture is related to altered lower limb muscle function compared to normal- or high-arched feet. However, the results from these studies were based on highly selected populations such as those with rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore, the objective of this study was to compare lower limb muscle function of normal and flat-arched feet in peop...
متن کاملFlat-arched feet display altered foot kinematics compared to normal-arched feet during walking
Methods Nineteen participants with normaland flat-arched feet were recruited for this study (10 with normal and 9 with flat-arched feet). A foot screening protocol comprising measurements from weightbearing antero-posterior and lateral foot radiographs were used to classify foot posture. Tri-planar motion of the tibia, rearfoot and forefoot during barefoot walking were recorded from 10 cameras ...
متن کاملA protocol for classifying normal- and flat-arched foot posture for research studies using clinical and radiographic measurements
BACKGROUND There are several clinical and radiological methods available to classify foot posture in research, however there is no clear strategy for selecting the most appropriate measurements. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a foot screening protocol to distinguish between participants with normal- and flat-arched feet who would then subsequently be recruited into a series of ...

Background: The muscles activity of individuals with flat foot play an important role in identifying the causes of these people’s vulnerability. The rate and pattern of muscles activity depends on the speed of walking and so far, difference in muscles activity of individuals with flat foot and normal during walking with different speeds remains unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this inve...
متن کاملA Three-dimensional Gait Analysis of People with Flat Arched Feet on an Ascending Slope
[Purpose] The purpose of the study was to discover why people who have flat feet show a higher risk of damage to the musculoskeletal system than those who have normal feet. Furthermore, we examined the kinematic differences in the lower extremity between flat feet and normal feet in individuals on an ascending slope using three-dimensional gait analysis. [Subjects] This study was conducted on 3...
