Amelanotic Melanoma Masquerading as a Granular Cell Lesion

چکیده
Amelanotic melanoma (AM) presents a diagnostic challenge due to its wide clinical presentations, lack of pigmentation, and varied histological appearances. Immunohistochemistry plays a crucial role in the diagnosis of these lesions. Amelanotic melanoma of oral mucosa is an uncommon lesion. We report a case of a 50-year-old male patient with a growth on the anterior mandibular gingiva of seven-month duration. In the present case, histologically, the tumour resembled a granular cell lesion, which has not been reported previously in AM. Diagnosis was possible by a sequential panel of immunohistochemical markers, of which finally vimentin, S100, HMB45, and Melan-A were positive. The tumor was surgically excised, and postsurgical radiotherapy was given.

Relearning the lesson – amelanotic malignant melanoma: a case report
Although not as common as the other melanomas, amelanotic melanoma often evades diagnosis by masquerading as other pathology. A high index of suspicion is therefore required for early and appropriate intervention. We present a patient who was diagnosed and managed as having paronychia of the middle finger while in actual fact he had a subungual amelanotic melanoma. By the time of his referral t...

Collision (contiguous) tumors of the skin can result in misleading clinicopathological presentations, and the choice of appropriate diagnostic techniques may prevent incomplete diagnosis and management. We report 2 cases of collision tumors involving amelanotic malignant melanoma of the back. One patient is a 79-yr-old male with an 8.7 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm polypoid lesion that on shave biopsy was dia...
متن کاملParotid metastasis of an amelanotic melanoma of the scalp: The great masquerader.
BACKGROUND Cutaneous melanoma is often characterized by its pigmented appearance; however, up to 8.1% of such lesions contain little or no pigmentation. Amelanotic melanomas, lesions devoid of visible pigment, present a diagnostic quandary because they can masquerade as many other skin pathologies. Recognizing amelanotic melanoma is even more clinically challenging when it is first detected as ...
متن کاملAmelanotic melanoma masquerading as a pyogenic granuloma: caution warranted.
Case In April 2012, a 69-year-old Chinese woman complained of a non-healing raised lesion over the lateral aspect of her left fifth toe which had developed 2 years earlier. It appeared to have started as a minor abrasion after wearing ill-fitting shoes. A painless swelling then developed over that site with occasional friction-induced bleeding. She attended several podiatry treatment sessions a...
متن کاملCoexistence of amelanotic melanoma and liposarcoma.
An amelanotic malignant melanoma is characterized by little or no pigment. It is frequently misdiagnosed because it is a rare entity in general, and because of its unusual clinical features. Liposarcoma is one of the most common adult soft tissue sarcomas. We encountered a case of amelanotic melanoma with a concurrent liposarcoma. A 68-year-old man presented with a single, 1.5x1.5 cm round eryt...
