An extraction technique for the estimation of Evans blue in plasma.

چکیده
The dye-dilution method for the determination of plasma volume presents several problems, one of which is the estimation of dye concentration in plasma. It is with this problem that the present paper is primarily concerned. The most frequently used dye is Evans blue, T 1824. The colorimetric estimation of this dye in plasma is open to a number of possible errors, particularly those introduced by opacity of the plasma and by the haemolysis of blood samples. Recently it has become possible quantitatively to extract Evans blue from plasma for estimation in watery solution (Allen and Orahovats, 1948; Allen, 1951 ; Korner, Morris, and Courtice, 1954; Bedwell, Patterson, and Swale, 1955). As a result of considerable experience with Korner, Morris, and Courtice's method, it has become apparent that certain details of technique are of critical importance. The purpose of this article is to describe a technique that has been found to give satisfactory results, with regard both to speed and to accuracy.

A comparison of direct and extraction methods for the determination of T-1824 (Evans blue) in plasma and serum.
The dye T-1824 (Evans Blue) has gained wide acceptance for determining plasma volume. Recently there has been a renewed interest in dye circulation studies for the measurement of cardiac output, central volume, cardiac shunts, and valvular regurgitation. The method of estimation most commonly used is spectrophotometric analysis of the dye-tinged plasma (or serum) compared with standard dye solu...
متن کاملThe extraction of Evans blue (T1824) from plasma and the measurement of plasma volume.
Haemolysis and lipaemia interfere with the direct photometric estimation of Evans blue in plasma. During an investigation of blood volume changes in surgical shock using this dye, lipaemia was often encountered and it was necessary to use an extraction procedure for the estimation of the dye concentration. A rapid method was desired. The method of Crooke and Morris (1942) using a hydrochloric a...

Clomipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant. Different methods for determination of clomipramine hydrochloride in plasma have been described. Most of these procedures favor the use of acidic back-extraction in extraction procedure and HPLC as the analytical technique. In this study, the clomipramine extraction procedure was modified and a direct injection to the column was performed to shorten t...
متن کاملQuantitative evaluation of Blood Brain Barrier permeability in transient focal cerebral ischemia in the rat
Introduction: Development of brain edema following focal cerebral ischemia exacerbates primary ischemic injury. Blood brain barrier (BBB) opening is an important part of edema named as vasogenic brain edema. In this study, quantitative alterations of BBB permeability is experimentally evaluated using transient focal cerebral ischemia in the rat. Methods: Two groups of male rats (ischemic and sh...
