Scaling of the Strain Hardening Modulus of Glassy Polymers with the Flow Stress

چکیده
In a recent letter, Govaert et al. examined the relationship between strain hardening modulus Gr and flow stress σflow for five different glassy polymers. In each case, results forGr at different strain rates or different temperatures are linearly related to the flow stress. They noted that this linear relation is different than a simple proportionality between Gr and σflow, which they claimed was found in our earlier simulations. Data from previous publications and new results are presented to show that simulations also yield a linear relation between modulus and flow stress. Possible explanations for the change in the ratio of modulus to flow stress with temperature and strain rate are discussed.

Simple model for the deformation-induced relaxation of glassy polymers.
Glassy polymers show "strain hardening": at constant extensional load, their flow first accelerates, then arrests. Recent experiments have found this to be accompanied by a striking and unexplained dip in the segmental relaxation time. Here we explain such behavior by combining a minimal model of flow-induced liquefaction of a glass with a description of the stress carried by strained polymers,...
متن کاملA Constitutive Model for Sands
In this paper, an elastoplastic constitutive model is presented for predicting sandy soil behavior under monotonic and cyclic loadings. The model is based on the CJS3 model that takes into account deviatoric and isotropic mechanisms of plasticity. The flow rule in deviatoric mechanism is non-associated and a kinematic hardening law controls the evolution of the yield surface. In the present s...

In this paper, a new approach is proposed for stress state - dependent flow localization in bifurcation failure model bounded through ductile damage in dynamically loaded sheets. Onset of localized necking is considered in phenomenological way for different strain rates to draw the forming limit diagram (FLD). Using a strain metal hardening exponent in the Vertex theory related to the strain ra...

In the current paper the results of a numerical simulation that were verified by a well instrumented experimental procedure for studying the arching effect over a trapdoor in sand is presented. To simulate this phenomenon with continuum mechanics, the experimental procedure is modeled in ABAQUS code using stress dependent hardening in elastic state and plastic strain dependent frictional harden...
