We have investigated variability of CH uptake process 4 of agricultural gray forest soils, Moscow region, Russia, at different time scales (monthly, daily, hourly). Additionally some belowground factors impacting soil CH consumption were tested for their shortand long4 term effect. It was found that the gray forest soil was the sink for atmospheric methane and average annual net rate of methane oxidation for 3 years was calculated as 20 mcg C-CH m h . The large fluctuations were 4 2 1

Afforestation, as a tool to mitigate carbon emission is constrained by available land areain several countries, but Iran has the potential of plantation. In doing so, differences in soilstocks between tree species could give an indication of the effects of future managementchanges. Hence, a better understanding of tree species traits on soil properties is required topredict how changes in ecosy...

To determine whether repeated, long-term NH(4) (+) fertilization alters the enzymatic function of the atmospheric CH(4) oxidizer community in soil, we examined CH(4) uptake kinetics in temperate pine and hardwood forest soils amended with 150 kg N ha(-1) y(-1) as NH(4)NO(3) for more than a decade. The highest rates of atmospheric CH(4) consumption occurred in the upper 5 cm mineral soil of the ...

The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of forest road construction on the Soil Organic Carbon Stock (SOCS) in Ziarat Catchment. Therefore, soil samples were collected from five land use types including road construction, cultivated area, channel bank, pasture and forest land and soil organic carbon concentration and bulk density were measured in the samples and SOCS were...

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Changing the forests and pasture landuses to agricultural lands is one of the major global concerns about environmental degradation and climate change. As a result of the rangeland and forest changes into agricultural land and also tillage operations, about 430 million hectares, representing 30% of the world's total plowed land, are annually eroded and leavin...

The field study was conducted in one district of Educational-Experimental forest at Tehran University (Kheirood-Kenar forest) in the North of Iran. Eighty-five soil profiles were dug in the site of study and several chemical and physical soil properties were considered. These factors included: soil pH, soil texture, bulk density, organic carbon, total nitrogen, extractable phosphorus and depth ...
