Immunoblot analysis of the serological response in invasive Trichosporon beigelii and Blastoschizomyces capitatus infections.

چکیده
The serological response to Trichosporon sp. was examined by the immunoblot technique. Antibodies to a range of antigens (200 to 16 kilodaltons) were detectable in three patients with invasive Trichosporon beigelii or Blastoschizomyces capitatus infections and 10 uninfected controls. High levels of preexisting antibodies may contribute to the rarity of systemic infections.

Overview of systemic fungal infections.
A steady increase in the frequency of invasive fungal infections has been observed in the past 2 decades, particularly in immunosuppressed patients. In recipients of bone marrow transplants, Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus remain the primary pathogens. In many centers, however, Candida species other than C albicans now predominate, and many cases of aspergillosis are due to species o...
متن کاملESCMID and ECMM joint clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and management of rare invasive yeast infections.
The mortality associated with invasive fungal infections remains high with that involving rare yeast pathogens other than Candida being no exception. This is in part due to the severe underlying conditions typically predisposing patients to these healthcare-related infections (most often severe neutropenia in patients with haematological malignancies), and in part due to the often challenging i...

The in vitro antifungal activity of a new triazole derivative, voriconazole, was compared with those of itraconazole and amphotericin B against 67 isolates of Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus fumigatus, Bipolaris spp., Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium solani, Pseudallescheria boydii, Rhizopus arrhizus, Blastomyces dermatitidis, Histoplasma capsulatum, and Sporothrix schenckii. The in vitro activitie...

The ability to identify yeast isolates by the new enzymatic RapID Yeast Plus System was compared to the ability to identify yeast isolates by the API 20C system. A total of 447 yeast isolates representing Blastoschizomyces capitatus, 17 Candida spp., 5 Cryptococcus spp., Geotrichum spp., 2 Hanseniaspora spp., Hansenula anomala, Hansenula wingei, 3 Rhodotorula spp., Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Spo...
متن کاملCase of fatal Blastoschizomyces capitatus infection occurring in a patient receiving empiric micafungin therapy.
We report the first case, to our knowledge, of Blastoschizomyces capitatus infection occurring in a patient receiving empirical echinocandin therapy for neutropenic fevers. Clinicians should consider B. capitatus infection in those neutropenic patients who remain febrile despite echinocandin therapy or who develop yeast bloodstream infections while receiving an echinocandin.
