Fission Fragment Angular Distribution measurements of 235U and 238U at CERN n_TOF facility

چکیده
Neutron-induced fission cross sections of 238U and 235U are used as standards in the fast neutron region up to 200 MeV. A high accuracy of the standards is relevant to experimentally determine other neutron reaction cross sections. Therefore, the detection efficiency should be corrected by using the angular distribution of the fission fragments (FFAD), which are barely known above 20 MeV. In addition, the angular distribution of the fragments produced in the fission of highly excited and deformed nuclei is an important observable to investigate the nuclear fission process. In order to measure the FFAD of neutron-induced reactions, a fission detection setup based on parallel-plate avalanche counters (PPACs) has been developed and successfully used at the CERN-n_TOF facility. In this work, we present the preliminary results on the analysis of new 235U(n,f) and 238U(n,f) data in the extended energy range up to 200 MeV compared to the existing experimental data.

Measurement of neutron induced fission of 235U, 233U and 245Cm with the FIC detector at the CERN n TOF facility
A series of measurements of neutron induced fission cross section of various TRU isotopes have been performed at the CERN n TOF spallation neutron facility, in the energy range from thermal to nearly 250MeV. The experimental apparatus consists in a fast ionization chamber (FIC), used as a fission fragment detector with a high efficiency. Good discrimination between alphas and fission fragments ...

We have calculated the fission fragment angular anisotropy for 16O + 232Th,12C + 236U , 11B + 237 Np , 14 N + 232 Th , 11B + 235U , 12C + 232Th systems with the saddle point statistical model and compared the fission fragment angular anisotropy for these systems. This comparison was done with two methods a) without neutron correction and b) with neutron correction. Also we studied normal and ...
متن کاملNondestructive Assay Measurements Using the RPI Lead Slowing-Down Spectrometer
The use of a lead slowing-down spectrometer (LSDS) is considered as a possible option for nondestructive assay of fissile material of used nuclear fuel. The primary objective is to quantify fissile isotopes, particularly 239Pu and 235U, via a direct measurement distinguishing them through their characteristic fission spectra in the LSDS. In this paper, we present several assay measurements perf...

Thin targets of 238U were bombarded with 45, 55, 65 and 69 MeV protons at the Cyclotron and Radioisotope Center (CYRIC) of Tohoku University in Japan. Gamma rays emitted from the fission products were recorded and analyzed by using gamma spectroscopy. Then, the cross sections for the formation of fission products, fragment mass distributions, and total fission cross sections were measured. Spec...
متن کاملThe n_TOF Facility at CERN: Performances and First Physics Results
The neutron Time of Flight (n_TOF) facility at CERN is a source of a wide-range (1 eV<En<250 MeV) flux of neutrons, generated by spallation of 20-GeV/c protons onto a solid lead target. The goal of the n_TOF is to provide unprecedented precision in neutron kinetic energy determination, which will in turn bring the much-needed precision in neutron-induced cross-section measurements. The unique f...
