Image Quality and Radiation Dose for Intraoral Radiography: Hand-Held (Nomad), Battery Powered vs. Wall-Mount X-Ray Systems

چکیده

A hand-held, battery-powered dental intraoral x-ray system (60 kV, constant potential output) was compared to a conventional, wall-mounted intraoral x-ray system (70 kVp, self-rectified output) in terms of image quality, and patient and staff radiation doses. The image quality comparison included quantitative measurements of image sharpness (resolution) and contrast. Patient doses were compared using the FDA dental phantom and adjusting the radiation dose to obtain the same density on intraoral dental films. Staff radiation doses were measured using personal dosimetry badges for dental facilities before and after introduction of the hand-held x-ray system allowing accurate comparison of staff doses with both systems under similar workloads and operating conditions. Results for both image quality, and dose to patients and staff are provided.

Optimization of Dose and Image Quality in Full-fiand Computed Radiography Systems for Common Digital Radiographic Examinations

IntroductionA fine balance of image quality and radiation dose can be achieved by optimization to minimize stochastic and deterministic effects. This study aimed in ensuring that images of acceptable quality for common radiographic examinations in digital imaging were produced without causing harmful effects. Materials and MethodsThe study was conducted in three phases. The pre-optimization inv...

Efficacy of Increasing Focus to Film Distance (FFD) for Patient’s Dose and Image Quality in Pediatric Chest Radiography

Background: Increasing the x-ray focus to film distance (FFD) has been advocated as an effective method to reduce the patients’ radiation dose. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of this technique in patients' dose and image quality in pediatric chest x-ray.Material and methods: Sixty pediatric patients were x-ray imaged at FFDs of 100 and 130 cm. Dose measurements were perfo...

The need for national diagnostic reference levels: Entrance surface dose measurement in intraoral radiography

Background: Intraoral radiographies are the most frequent X-ray examinations in humans. According to International Commission on Radiation Protection (ICRP) recommendations, the selection of a diagnostic reference level (DRL) should be specific to a country or region. Critica l organs such as thyroid gland are exposed to X-rays in intraoral radiography and these exposures should be kept as low ...

Effect of the amount of battery charge on tube voltage in different hand-held dental x-ray systems

PURPOSE Hand-held dental x-ray system is a self contained x-ray machine designed to perform intraoral radiography with one or two hands. The issue about its usage as general dental radiography is still in dispute. The aim of the present study was to assess the relationship between the amount of battery charge and the tube voltage in different hand-held dental x-ray systems. MATERIALS AND METH...

Diagnostic reference levels at intraoral and dental panoramic examinations

Background: The aim of this study was to measure and determine diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) of programs used at intraoral and dent panoramic examinations in Kosovo. Materials and Methods: To determine DRL, were performed measurements for dose area product (DAP) at intraoral and dental panoramic radiology systems. This study has covered over 47% of X-ray units, which are in use for intraor...
