An emerging link between insulin resistance and inflammation.

چکیده
Since the proposal of insulin resistance by Professor Reaven about 30 years ago, it has been well known that individuals with insulin resistance are at greatly increased risk of having a combination of atherosclerosis risk factors, including glucose intolerance or diabetes, dyslipidemia characterized by elevated triglyceride, low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol concentrations, and hypertension. In addition, it has been demonstrated that insulin resistance can also predispose an individual to the development of several other chronic diseases such as coronary artery disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, polycystic ovary syndrome, hypothyroidism, and possibly several forms of cancer. In view of the great impact of the described disorders on human health, an understanding of the pathogenesis of insulin resistance is of prime importance.

ارتباط سطح سرمی رزیستین با شاخص های مقاومت به انسولین در افراد چاق دیابتی و غیر دیابتی
Background: Resistin, an adipocyte secreted factor, has been suggested to link obesity with type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance in rodent models but its relevance to human diabetes remains uncertain. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between serum resistin concentrations with insulin resistance and obesity indices in type 2 diabetes and non-diabetic obese subjects.Met...
متن کاملEffect of S-Methyl-L-Cysteine on Oxidative Stress, Inflammation and Insulin Resistance in Male Wistar Rats Fed with High Fructose Diet
Background: S-methyl cysteine (SMC) is a hydrophilic cysteine-containing compound naturally found in garlic and onion. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the protective effect of SMC on oxidative stress, inflammation and insulin resistance in an experiment of metabolic syndrome. Methods: Male Wistar rats were divided into five groups (6 rats in each group), namely; control, cont...
متن کاملSerum IL-18 and hsCRP Correlate with Insulin Resistance without Effect of Calcitriol Treatment on Type 2 Diabetes
Background: Chronic low-grade systemic inflammation presented in Type 2 diabetes mellitus plays a major role in disease progression as well as development of micro- and macro-vascular complications of diabetes. Therefore, reducing inflammation can be beneficial in prevention of diabetes complications. Objectives: To investigate the association between insulin resistance and inflammatory markers...
متن کاملNOD1 Activators Link Innate Immunity to Insulin Resistance
OBJECTIVE Insulin resistance associates with chronic inflammation, and participatory elements of the immune system are emerging. We hypothesized that bacterial elements acting on distinct intracellular pattern recognition receptors of the innate immune system, such as bacterial peptidoglycan (PGN) acting on nucleotide oligomerization domain (NOD) proteins, contribute to insulin resistance. RE...
متن کاملFat uses a TOLL-road to connect inflammation and diabetes.
The link between inflammation and diabetes is well established, but the nature of the link is unresolved. Obesity, inflammation, and insulin resistance are major characteristics of diabetes. A study by Flier and colleagues () identifies Toll-like receptor 4 signaling activated by fatty acids as part of that link. This receptor mediates inflammatory events and insulin resistance in peripheral or...
