چکیده

A substantial fraction of all network tra c today comes from applications in which clients retrieve objects from servers. The caching of objects in locations \close" to clients is an important technique for reducing both network tra c and response time for such applications. In this paper we consider the bene ts of associating caches with switching nodes throughout the network, rather than in a few locations. We also consider the use of various self-organizing or active cache management strategies for organizing cache content. We evaluate caching techniques using both simulation and a general analytic model for network caching. Our results indicate that in-network caching can make e ective use of cache space, and in many cases self-organizing caching schemes yield better average round-trip latencies than traditional approaches, using much smaller per-node caches.

Landforms identification using neural network-self organizing map and SRTM data

During an 11 days mission in February 2000 the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) collected data over 80% of the Earth's land surface, for all areas between 60 degrees N and 56 degrees S latitude. Since SRTM data became available, many studies utilized them for application in topography and morphometric landscape analysis. Exploiting SRTM data for recognition and extraction of topographic ...

Kohonen Self Organizing for Automatic Identification of Cartographic Objects

Automatic identification and localization of cartographic objects in aerial and satellite images have gained increasing attention in recent years in digital photogrammetry and remote sensing. Although the automatic extraction of man made objects in essence is still an unresolved issue, the man made objects can be extracted from aerial photos and satellite images. Recently, the high-resolution s...

Wireless Adhoc Networks in the Metropolitan/Wide Area: Concepts and First Results

– This paper is dedicated to on-going research activities in the field of wireless metropolitan and wide area networks with Quality-of-Service (QoS) guarantees. We focus on self-organizing systems, so-called adhoc networks, which can operate without any wired infrastructure (e.g. cellular base stations) – except for some interface points providing interconnectivity to other networks like the Pu...

A Modfied Self-organizing Map Neural Network to Recognize Multi-font Printed Persian Numerals (RESEARCH NOTE)

This paper proposes a new method to distinguish the printed digits, regardless of font and size, using neural networks.Unlike our proposed method, existing neural network based techniques are only able to recognize the trained fonts. These methods need a large database containing digits in various fonts. New fonts are often introduced to the public, which may not be truly recognized by the Opti...

Scalable Causal Message Logging for Wide-Area Environments

Causal message logging spread recovery information around the network in which the processes execute. This is an attractive property for wide area networks: it can be used to replicate processes that are otherwise inaccessible due to network partitions. However, current causal message logging protocols do not scale to thousands of processes. We describe the Hierarchical Causal Logging Protocol ...
