Atrial fibrillation ablation with persistent left superior vena cava detected during intracardiac echocardiography

چکیده
Introduction Atrial fibrillation ablation is an increasingly frequent procedure performed in the electrophysiology laboratory. Pulmonary vein foci account for more than 90% of triggers for atrial fibrillation, most commonly treated with complete pulmonary vein isolation most of the time. Non–pulmonary vein triggers are the drivers of atrial fibrillation in a subgroup of patients. This patient had an atrial tachycardia originating from a persistent left superior vena cava (SVC).

Cryoballoon ablation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in a case of persistent left superior vena cava
BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation (AF) usually originates from pulmonary veins (PVs) but can also be caused by pulmonary veins outside, such as the coronary sinus (CS), the superior vena cava (SVC), and the ligament of Marshall. CASE PRESENTATION A 69-year-old male with a history of palpitations for 10 years was referred to our institute because of its recurrence for half a day. A dynamic electr...
متن کاملLeft atrial ablation versus biatrial ablation for persistent and permanent atrial fibrillation: a prospective and randomized study.
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to compare--in patients with persistent and permanent atrial fibrillation (AF)--the efficacy and safety of left atrial ablation with that of a biatrial approach. BACKGROUND Left atrium-based catheter ablation of AF, although very effective in the paroxysmal form of the arrhythmia, has an insufficient efficacy in patients with persistent and permanent AF. ...
متن کاملThe role of superior vena cava in catheter ablation of long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation.
Aims The superior vena cava (SVC) has been established as an important source of atrial fibrillation (AF). The role of SVC in long-standing persistent AF and the efficacy of empiric electrical isolation of the SVC are still unclear. The purpose of this study was to judge the role of SVC in catheter ablation of long-standing persistent AF. Methods and results A total of 102 consecutive patient...
متن کاملNarrowing of the superior vena cava-right atrium junction during radiofrequency catheter ablation for inappropriate sinus tachycardia: analysis with intracardiac echocardiography.
OBJECTIVES The study explored the potential for tissue swelling and venous occlusion during radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation procedures using intracardiac echocardiography (ICE). BACKGROUND Transient superior vena cava occlusion has been reported following catheter ablation procedures for inappropriate sinus tachycardia (IST). Presumably, venous occlusion could occur owing to thrombus fo...
متن کاملAtrial Arrhythmia Ablation in Adult Congenital Heart Disease with a Persistent Left-side Superior Vena Cava
We herein report a case of atrial tachycardia (AT) originating from the dilated coronary sinus (CS) connected to a persistent left superior vena cava. The earliest activation site of AT was localized at the superior CS ostium, identified using a novel ultra-rapid high-density mapping system (Rhythmia™). Successful ablation was performed at the corresponding position. This report demonstrated th...
