چکیده

Infectious diseases remain a major cause of death, disability, and social and economic disorder for millions of people throughout the world. Poverty, poor access to health care, human migration, emerging disease agents, and antibiotic resistance all contribute to the expanding impact of infectious diseases. Prevention and treatment strategies for infectious diseases derive from a thorough understanding of the complex interactions between specific viral or bacterial pathogens and the human (or animal) host.

Proteins That Bind Sulfated Glycosaminoglycans - Essentials of Glycobiology - NCBI Bookshelf

Glycosaminoglycans bind to many different classes of proteins mostly through electrostatic interactions between negatively charged sulfate groups and uronic acids and positively charged amino acids in the protein. This chapter focuses on examples of glycosaminoglycan (GAG)-binding proteins, methods for measuring GAG–protein interaction, and information about three-dimensional structures of the ...

Principles of Glycan Recognition - Essentials of Glycobiology - NCBI Bookshelf

Glycans interact with many types of proteins, as exemplified by their binding to enzymes, antibodies, and glycanbinding proteins (GBPs). Binding of glycans to proteins represents the major way in which the information contained in glycan structures is recognized, deciphered, and put into biological action. This chapter describes the structural and thermodynamic principles of glycan–GBP interact...

HSP Roles as Biomarkers and Antigens in Bacterial and Viral Infections

Diagnosis of infectious diseases remains an important issue in medical science. Identification of biomarkers can be used to predict early infections. Recently, heat shock proteins (HSPs) have been known as the conserved compounds expressed under stress conditions in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems. These proteins act as molecular chaperones. Several studies showed the increased levels o...
