Revisiting the radial distribution of pulsars in the Galaxy

چکیده
The high sensitivity Parkes and Swinburne Multibeam pulsar surveys have nearly doubled the number of known pulsars and revealed many more distant pulsars with high dispersion measures. These data allow us to investigate in more detail the statistical parameters and distribution of pulsars, especially in the central regions of the Galaxy, which was almost impossible in previous low-frequency and less-sensitive surveys. To estimate the distances to pulsars we used the new NE2001 Galactic electron density model. We study the Galactic distribution of normal pulsars with 1400 MHz luminosities greater than 0.1 mJy kpc2 refining the shape and parameters of the radial distribution of pulsars. The maximum galactocentric distribution of pulsars is located at 3.2±0.4 kpc and the scale-length of this distribution is 3.8±0.4 kpc for the assumed distances to the Galactic center R⊙ = 8.5kpc. The surface density of pulsars near the Galactic center is equal to or slightly higher than that in the solar neighborhood. For observable normal pulsars with luminosities ≥ 0.1 mJy kpc2, we also re-estimate their local surface density and birth-rate: 41±5 pulsars kpc−2 and 4.1±0.5 pulsars kpc−2 Myr−1 respectively. For the total number of potentially observable pulsars in the Galaxy, we obtain (24 ± 3) × 103 and (240 ± 30) × 103 before and after applying beaming correction according the Tauris & Manchester (1998) beaming model. Within the limits of errors of estimations these results are in close agreement with the results of the previous studies of Lyne et al. (1998) (hereafter LML98). The dependence of these results on the NE2001 model and recommendations for further improvement of electron density distribution are discussed.

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کاملThe Parkes multibeam pulsar survey: VI. Discovery and timing of 142 pulsars and a Galactic population analysis
We present the discovery and follow-up observations of 142 pulsars found in the Parkes 20-cm multibeam pulsar survey of the Galactic plane. These new discoveries bring the total number of pulsars found by the survey to 742. In addition to tabulating spin and astrometric parameters, along with pulse width and flux density information, we present orbital characteristics for 13 binary pulsars whic...
متن کاملPulsar motions in our Galaxy
Pulsar motions in our Galaxy from their birth until 2 Gyr are studied statistically via Monte-Carlo simulation of 2 × 10 pulsars with the best available representation of the Galactic potential. We find that the distribution of height above the Galactic plane for pulsars with characteristic ages less than about 8 Myr could be well fitted by a Gaussian function. For older pulsars, an extra expon...

This paper presents a nonlinear controller for a Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) of a microgrid incorporating the Distributed Generation (DG) units. The nonlinear control has been designed based on partial feedback linearization theory and Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers try to adjust the voltage and trace the output. This paper has proposed a combination of a fuz...
متن کاملGalactic Distribution and the Luminosity Function of Pulsars
We have studied the radial distribution and luminosity function of normal pulsars in the Galaxy, on the basis of the ATNF Pulsar Catalogue where the distances are calculated according to the new electron density model NE2001. We show that the maximum of galactocentric distribution of pulsars located near 3.5 kpc and the scale-length of this distribution is ∼ 4 kpc. The surface density of pulsar...
