Learning deformation and structure simultaneously: In situ endograft deformation analysis

چکیده
The learning of the shape and appearance behavior of complex anatomical structures is of growing importance in the successful use of medical imaging data. We propose a method to simultaneously learn a model of shape variation and the behavioral structure of objects in volumetric data sets. The algorithm performs a group-wise registration of a set of examples, and accounts for the heterogeneous deformation or variability properties of the data. We use the method for the in situ analysis of endograft deformation in the thoracic aorta during the cardiac cycle. The method is based on an emerging model of the shape variation, which is learned autonomously from a gated computed tomography sequence. It automatically adapts to the highly non-uniform elasticity properties of the structure during learning. The resulting deformation model is used for the measurement of global and local characteristics of the endograft movement. The method allows for the in situ localization of the stent during the cardiac cycle, and the measurement of its deformation. Furthermore, it makes the comparison of different endograft designs possible, and can serve as a basis for fitting a physical model of the endograft- and vessel surface to individual patients. The latter is essential for long-term risk assessment of the impact of endografts in highly mobile areas. We evaluate the approach on 10 data sets from patients that underwent endograft placement after traumatic ruptures of the thoracic aorta.

Elastic/plastic Buckling Analysis of Skew Thin Plates based on Incremental and Deformation Theories of Plasticity using Generalized Differential Quadrature Method
Abstract In this study, generalized differential quadrature analysis of elastic/plastic buckling of skew thin plates is presented. The governing equations are derived for the first time based on the incremental and deformation theories of plasticity and classical plate theory (CPT). The elastic/plastic behavior of plates is described by the Ramberg-Osgood model. The ranges of plate geometries...
متن کاملA model for estimation of stress-dependent deformation modulus of rock mass
Deformation modulus of rock mass has a significant role in the support design of an underground excavation. It is determined by expensive in-situ tests or by empirical models. Existing models for estimation of deformation modulus do not consider its stress dependence. Herein, data from several sources is used to develop a stress- (depth-) dependent relation for estimation of deformation modulus...
متن کاملFinite Element Analysis of Functionally Graded Skew Plates in Thermal Environment based on the New Third-order Shear Deformation Theory
Functionally graded materials are commonly used in thermal environment to change the properties of constituent materials. The new numerical procedure of functionally graded skew plates in thermal environment is presented in this study based on the C0-form of the novel third-order shear deformation theory. Without the shear correction factor, this theory is also taking the desirable properties a...
متن کاملOn the Corotational Beam Element Formulation in Large Deformation Analysis
This paper sheds more light on the co-rotational element formulation for beams with uniform cross-section. The co-rotational elements are commonly used in problems in which a structure undergoes a large deformation. In this study, the foregoing element obeys the Euler-Bernoulli beam assumptions. Unlike the formulations presented in the literature, in this paper, a number of local nodal coordina...
متن کاملRevealing anelasticity and structural rearrangements in nanoscale metallic glass films using in situ TEM diffraction
We used a novel diffraction-based method to extract the local, atomic-level elastic strain in nanoscale amorphous TiAl films during in situ transmission electron microscopy deformation, while simultaneously measuring the macroscopic strain. The complementary strain measurements revealed significant anelastic deformation, which was independently confirmed by strain rate experiments. Furthermore,...
