چکیده

Airborne laser scanning has become an arch technology and which is now widely accepted for 3D data collection. These 3D points represent the terrain surface as well as objects on top of the terrain surface. Airborne LIDAR systems are able to record data through multiple pulses which make the data very accurate. LIDAR data is a relatively new technology for obtaining Digital Surface Models (DSM) of the earth’s surface which can be very useful for detection of different physical features like trees, buildings, roads, etc. in rural and urban areas. In urban areas problem arises due to high density of points and therefore the demarcation between the different physical objects becomes difficult. In the paper LiDAR data of an urban area is used for buildings extraction. Firstly the data is smoothened to remove random error in it and then a new parameter openness is used for the extraction of building from it. Openness is a novel digital image processing technique which expresses degree of dominance or enclosure of a location on a surface. Openness helps in differentiating different types of physical features present in the data. All the results obtained are presented with discussion. The test results show considerable success in extracting buildings from an urban area where buildings and trees are of equal heights. Generation of the results in this project were done with the help of MATLAB programming.

Linear Feature Extraction of Buildings from Terrestrial Lidar Data with Morphological Techniques

LiDAR has been a major interest of photogrammetry to acquire three dimensional objects. It has shown its promising capabilities in building virtual reality applications, such as virtual campus and virtual historic sites. However, point clouds of LiDAR data always occupy a large sum of storage capacity. This blocks further fast processing of LiDAR data to combine with GIS to build virtual realit...

Extraction of Buildings and Trees Using Images and Lidar Data

The automatic detection and 3D modeling of objects at airports is an important issue for the EU FP6 project PEGASE. PEGASE is a feasibility study of a new 24/7 navigation system, which could either replace or complement existing systems and would allow a three-dimensional truly autonomous aircraft landing and take-off primarily for airplanes and secondary for helicopters. In this work, we focus...

Aerial Images and Lidar Data Fusion for Automatic Feature Extraction Using the Self-organizing Map (som) Classifier

This paper presents work on the development of automatic feature extraction from multispectral aerial images and lidar data based on test data from two different study areas with different characteristics. First, we filtered the lidar point clouds to generate a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) using a novel filtering technique based on a linear first-order equation which describes a tilted plane sur...

Fusion of Airborne LiDAR Data and Satellite SAR Data for Building Classification

In an airborne photogrammetry, a geometrical modeling and object classification can be automated using color images. Stereo matching is an essential technique to reconstruct 3D model from images. Although, object classification methods are automated using height data estimated with the stereo matching, it is difficult to recognize construction materials, such as woods and concrete. The construc...

LOCALIZED SEGMENT BASED PROCESSING FOR AUTOMATIC BUILDING EXTRACTION FROM LiDAR DATA

The current methods of object segmentation and extraction and classification of aerial LiDAR data is manual and tedious task. This work proposes a technique for object segmentation out of LiDAR data. A bottom-up geometric rule based approach was used initially to devise a way to segment buildings out of the LiDAR datasets. For curved wall surfaces, comparison of localized surface normals was do...
