ASIA scores correlate with DTI Metrics in Non-Hemorrhagic Traumatic C-Spine Injury

چکیده
Introduction Conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the best imaging modality to demonstrate ligamentous injury, hematoma, disk herniation, spinal cord edema and hemorrhage that occur following trauma. Quantitative and qualitative image parameters like lesion length, maximum spinal cord compression, spinal cord swelling and, presence of hemorrhage within the cord has been reported to be useful in predicting neurological outcome. There has been recent interest in evaluating spinal cord injury using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Recently, experimental DT-MRI derived measurement performed in the rat spinal cord during the hyperacute period following injury reported axial diffusion measurements were helpful to predict severity of injury and correlated well with histology. The purpose of our retrospective study was to determine the correlation between American Spine Injury Association (ASIA) clinical injury motor score in patients with traumatic cervical cord injury and the various DT-MRI parameters.

Epidemiology of Traumatic Spinal Injury in north of Iran: A prospective Study
Background and Aim: Acute injuries of the spine and spinal cord are causing the greatest amount of disability. They produce high cost outcomes for patients and society psychologically and economically. Knowing the epidemiology of these injuries play an important role in planning for prevention and conservative treatment. But now, we have little information about this in our country. The ai...

Background & Aim: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the worst kinds of traumatic injuries with remarkable social and economic effects on communities. Methods & Materials/Patients: In this prospective randomized clinical trial, 122 patients with traumatic spinal cord injury were admitted to Poursina hospital within 48 hours of injury to compare granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-...

Objective: Traumatic spine injuries are seriously important and are associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. The goal of this study is to determine the epidemiology of the traumatic spine injuries in Shahid Beheshti Hospital of Kashan University of Medical Sciences (KAUMS), the main trauma center in Kashan, Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional study was undertaken on all cases ...
متن کاملDiffusion Assessment of Cortical Changes, Induced by Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury
Promising treatments are being developed to promote functional recovery after spinal cord injury (SCI). Magnetic resonance imaging, specifically Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) has been shown to non-invasively measure both axonal and myelin integrity following traumatic brain and SCI. A novel data-driven model-selection algorithm known as Diffusion Basis Spectrum Imaging (DBSI) has been proposed...
متن کاملQuantification of anisotropy and orientation in 3D electron microscopy and diffusion tensor imaging in injured rat brain
Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) reveals microstructural features of grey and white matter non-invasively. The contrast produced by DTI, however, is not fully understood and requires further validation. We used serial block-face scanning electron microscopy (SBEM) to acquire tissue metrics, i.e., anisotropy and orientation, using three-dimensional Fourier transform-based (3D-FT) analysis, to corr...
