چکیده

The evaluation and treatment of groin pain in athletes is challenging, and the anatomy is complex. Multiple pathologies often coexist that may cause similar symptoms, and several organ systems can refer pain to the groin. Many athletes with groin pain have tried prolonged rest and various treatment regimens and received differing opinions regarding the cause of their pain. The rehabilitation specialist is often given a nonspecific referral of “groin pain” or “anterior hip pain,” the cause of which can be as simple as a tight iliopsoas (which may require stretching) or as complex as athletic pubalgia. Athletic pubalgia is defined as an injury to the rectus abdominis insertion onto the pubic symphysis, often accompanied by injury to the conjoined tendon insertion and the adductor longus attachment to the pelvis. The distinctive feature of this disorder is subtle pelvic instability and accompanying compromise of the transversalis fascia, eventually leading to incompetency of the posterior inguinal wall. The exact structures involved are not always clear unless surgery is performed, and overlapping conditions may exist. A muscle imbalance between the adductor muscles and abdominal muscles may be the underlying cause of athletic pubalgia, but this has yet to be proven.

The association of hip strength and flexibility with the incidence of adductor muscle strains in professional ice hockey players.

This prospective study was conducted to determine whether hip muscle strength and flexibility play a role in the incidence of adductor and hip flexor strains in National Hockey League ice hockey team players. Hip flexion, abduction, and adduction strength were measured in 81 players before two consecutive seasons. Thirty-four players were cut, traded, or sent to the minor league before the begi...

Groin Injuries in Sports Medicine

CONTEXT An in-season groin injury may be debilitating for the athlete. Proper diagnosis and identification of the pathology are paramount in providing appropriate intervention. Furthermore, an adductor strain that is treated improperly can become chronic and career threatening. Any one of the 6 muscles of the adductor muscle group can be involved. The degree of injury can range from a minor str...

Hydrogen sulfide improves vessel formation of the ischemic adductor muscle and wound healing in diabetic db/db mice

Objective(s): It has been demonstrated that hydrogen sulfide plays a vital role in physiological and pathological processes such as regulating inflammation, oxidative stress, and vessel relaxation. The aim of the study was to explore the effect of hydrogen sulfide on angiogenesis in the ischemic adductor muscles of type 2 diabetic db/db mice and ischemic diabetic wound...

Time series analysis of jaw muscle contraction and tissue deformation during mastication in miniature pigs.

Masticatory muscle contraction causes both jaw movement and tissue deformation during function. Natural chewing data from 25 adult miniature pigs were studied by means of time series analysis. The data set included simultaneous recordings of electromyography (EMG) from bilateral masseter (MA), zygomaticomandibularis (ZM) and lateral pterygoid muscles, bone surface strains from the left squamosa...

Obturator internus muscle strains

We report 2 cases of obturator internus muscle strains. The injuries occurred in young male athletes involved in kicking sports. Case 1 details an acute obturator internus muscle strain with associated adductor longus strain. Case 2 details an overuse injury of the bilateral obturator internus muscles. In each case, magnetic resonance imaging played a crucial role in accurate diagnosis.

Variant adductor muscle complex of thigh – a case report

Introduction The medial thigh muscles –the adductor group– are in the medial compartment of the thigh. The adductor group of thigh muscles consist of adductor longus, adductor brevis, adductor magnus, gracilis and obturator externus muscles. Collectively these muscles are the adductors of the thigh; however actions of some of these muscles are more complex [1]. Pectineus also belongs anatomical...
