چکیده

"There appears to be a direct correlation between tumor burden and serum CgA levels. Rising serum levels of CgA can predeed radiographic evidence of recurrence. . . . .Using serum CgA level above 30 U/ml, one is able to discriminate between disease free patients and those with recurrent metastatic disease with a sensitivity of 92% and specificity of 96%. This is superior to measuring urinary 5-HIAA levels. . . ." Quote from "Recent advances in carcinoid pathogenesis, diagnosis and management" by Rose B.Gamin M.D. and Jeffrey A. Biological function and clinical relevance of chromogranin A and derived peptides

Chromogranin A (CgA (CHGA)) is the major soluble protein co-stored and co-released with catecholamines and can function as a pro-hormone by giving rise to several bioactive peptides. This review summarizes the physiological functions, the pathogenic implications, and the recent use of these molecules as biomarkers in several pathological conditions. A thorough literature review of the electroni...

Validation of serum versus plasma measurements of chromogranin a levels in patients with carcinoid tumors: lack of correlation between absolute chromogranin a levels and symptom frequency.

OBJECTIVE Chromogranin A (CGA) levels are used to confirm the diagnosis and monitor the course of patients with neuroendocrine tumors. Chromogranin A levels are significantly reduced when patients are acutely treated with octreotide; however, limited data are available that correlates octreotide long-acting repeatable (LAR) dose or steady state octreotide blood levels to the absolute value of s...

Chromogranin A, the Major Catecholamine Storage Vesicle Soluble Protein

Chromogranin A (CgA), the major catecholamine storage vesicle (CSV) soluble protein, may index exocytotic sympathoadrenal secretion. To explore CgA in adrenergic tissues, we developed a radioimmunoassay for bovine CgA. Within adrenal medulla CSV, several minor chromogranins had similar amino acid compositions and peptide maps to that of CgA and also showed parallel, partial cross-reactivity in ...

Large dense-core secretory granule biogenesis is under the control of chromogranin A in neuroendocrine cells.

The large dense-core secretory granule is an organelle in neuroendocrine/endocrine cells, where prohormones and proneuropeptides are stored, processed, and secreted in a regulated manner. Here we present evidence that chromogranin A (CgA), one of the most abundant acidic glycoproteins ubiquitously present in neuroendocrine/endocrine cells, regulates dense-core secretory granule biogenesis. Spec...

Immunoelectron microscopic localization of dopamine beta-hydroxylase and chromogranin A in adrenomedullary chromaffin cells.

Dopamine beta-hydroxylase (DBH) was purified from bovine adrenal medullae. Rabbit IgG raised against DBH inhibited its activity by 80%. In an immunoblot analysis, the IgG specifically recognized two subunits of DBH the 72 and 75 KD components. Chromogranin A (CGA) also was purified from bovine adrenal medullae, and rabbit IgG against CGA recognized this chromogranin A in the immunoblot analysis...
