Non-Markovianity hinders Quantum Darwinism

چکیده
We investigate Quantum Darwinism and the emergence of a classical world from the quantum one in connection with the spectral properties of the environment. We use a microscopic model of quantum environment in which, by changing a simple system parameter, we can modify the information back flow from environment into the system, and therefore its non-Markovian character. We show that the presence of memory effects hinders the emergence of classical objective reality, linking these two apparently unrelated concepts via a unique dynamical feature related to decoherence factors.

Reveal non-Markovianity of open quantum systems via local operations
Non-Markovianity, as an important feature of general open quantum systems, is usually difficult to quantify with limited knowledge of how the plant that we are interested in interacts with its environment—the bath. It often happens that the reduced dynamics of the plant attached to a non-Markovian bath becomes indistinguishable from the one with a Markovian bath, if we left the entire system fr...
متن کاملConcepts of quantum non-Markovianity: a hierarchy
Markovianity is easy to define for classical stochastic processes, and corresponds to the notion that the future evolution of a system does not depend on its detailed dynamical history, but only on its current state. In contrast, due to the noncommutativity of quantum observables even for the same observable at different times there are many possible quantum generalisations. A general consensus...
متن کاملNon-Markovianity and reservoir memory of quantum channels: a quantum information theory perspective
Quantum technologies rely on the ability to coherently transfer information encoded in quantum states along quantum channels. Decoherence induced by the environment sets limits on the efficiency of any quantum-enhanced protocol. Generally, the longer a quantum channel is the worse its capacity is. We show that for non-Markovian quantum channels this is not always true: surprisingly the capacity...
متن کاملQuantum speed limits in open systems: Non-Markovian dynamics without rotating-wave approximation
We derive an easily computable quantum speed limit (QSL) time bound for open systems whose initial states can be chosen as either pure or mixed states. Moreover, this QSL time is applicable to either Markovian or non-Markovian dynamics. By using of a hierarchy equation method, we numerically study the QSL time bound in a qubit system interacting with a single broadened cavity mode without rotat...
متن کاملNon-Markovianity: initial correlations and nonlinear optical measurements
By extending the response function approach developed in nonlinear optics, we analytically derive an expression for the non-Markovianity in the time evolution of a system in contact with a quantum mechanical bath, and find a close connection with the directly observable nonlinear optical response. The result indicates that memory in the bath-induced fluctuations rather than in the dissipation c...
