Summaries for Context-Free Games

چکیده
We study two-player games played on the infinite graph of sentential forms induced by a contextfree grammar (that comes with an ownership partitioning of the non-terminals). The winning condition is inclusion of the derived terminal word in the language of a finite automaton. Our contribution is a new algorithm to decide the winning player and to compute her strategy. It is based on a novel representation of all plays starting in a non-terminal. The representation uses the domain of Boolean formulas over the transition monoid of the target automaton. The elements of the monoid are essentially procedure summaries, and our approach can be seen as the first summary-based algorithm for the synthesis of recursive programs. We show that our algorithm has optimal (doubly exponential) time complexity, that it is compatible with recent antichain optimizations, and that it admits a lazy evaluation strategy. Our preliminary experiments indeed show encouraging results, indicating a speed up of three orders of magnitude over a competitor. 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.1.1 Models of Computation

Degrees of Lookahead in Context-free Infinite Games
We continue the investigation of delay games, infinite games in which one player may postpone her moves for some time to obtain a lookahead on her opponent’s moves. We show that the problem of determining the winner of such a game is undecidable for deterministic context-free winning conditions. Furthermore, we show that the necessary lookahead to win a deterministic context-free delay game can...
متن کاملTowards the automatic generation of card games through grammar-guided genetic programming
We demonstrate generating complete and playable card games using evolutionary algorithms. Card games are represented in a previously devised card game description language, a context-free grammar. The syntax of this language allows us to use grammar-guided genetic programming. Candidate card games are evaluated through a cascading evaluation function, a multi-step process where games with undes...
متن کاملComputing Procedure Summaries for Interprocedural Analysis
We describe a new technique for computing procedure summaries for performing an interprocedural analysis on programs. Procedure summaries are computed by performing a backward analysis of procedures, but there are two key new features: (i) information is propagated using “generic” assertions (rather than regular assertions that are used in intraprocedural analysis); and (ii) unification is used...
متن کاملA Card Game Description Language
We present initial research regarding a system capable of generating novel card games. We furthermore propose a method for computationally analysing existing games of the same genre. Ultimately, we present a formalisation of card game rules, and a context-free grammar Gcardgame capable of expressing the rules of a large variety of card games. Example derivations are given for the poker variant ...
متن کاملAction Summary for Computer Games: Extracting Action for Spectator Modes and Summaries
As action in computer games is becoming more and more complex, the possibilities for entertaining players and spectators is increasing. This paper introduces methods for the automatic extraction and evaluation of action scenes in computer games. Selection strategies are also presented that allow for the automatic generation of summaries after the game (to be shown as a sequence of images), or t...
