چکیده

GOODWIN, FRANK J., ABBIE I. KNOWLTON, AND JOHN H. LARAGH. Absence of renin suppression by deoxycorticosterone acetate in rats. Am. J. Physiol. 216(6) : 1476-1480. 1969.-The influence of deoxycorticosterone acetate (DCA) on renin release was studied in rats. DCA-treated and normal control groups of animals were maintained on either sodium-free or sodiumrich diets for 6 weeks. In the normal rat, sodium deprivation induced a significant increase in peripheral plasma renin activity. Concurrent administration of DCA did not influence this response. A high-sodium diet alone failed to suppress peripheral plasma renin activity: in this respect the rat appears to differ strikingly from man. The combination of this diet and DCA reduced plasma renin activity to almost undetectable levels: this suppression appeared to be caused not as a result of increased levels of the hormone per se, but rather as an indirect consequence of mineralocorticoid-induced changes in sodium metabolism. It is concluded that in the absence of available dietary sodium, DCA exerts no influence upon renin release from the juxtaglomerular apparatus.

Physiol. 225(l): 234-239. 1973.-A model to test for the failure of feedback suppression of renin release was developed in normal rats and applied to spontaneously hypertensive (SH) and two strains of normotensive rats at various ages. Long-term adrenomedullin infusion improves survival in malignant hypertensive rats.

Previous studies have demonstrated that adrenomedullin has inhibitory effects on the proliferation and DNA synthesis of mesangial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells in vitro and that plasma adrenomedullin levels are markedly elevated in malignant hypertension. This study was designed to examine whether chronic adrenomedullin infusion has renoprotective effects in malignant hypertensive rats...

Production of occlusive vascular lesions by bacterial endotoxin in kidneys of rats with deoxycorticosterone hypertension.

Deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA) produces a characteristic syndrome in partially nephrectomized rats kept on a high sodium diet, which in many ways resembles the morphologic and functional aspects of human hypertensive vascular disease.' 2 The administration of renincontaining kidney extract to such rats, according to Masson, Corcoran and Page,3 results in an eclampsia-like syndrome with rena...

Time course of stimulation of renal renin messenger RNA by furosemide.

Renin secretion responds rapidly to a variety of stimuli; however, reported changes in renal renin messenger RNA (mRNA) levels in vivo have been observed only after prolonged stimulation. Studies were designed to test whether rapid changes in renin mRNA levels can be produced in vivo. In the first series, Sprague-Dawley rats received furosemide (10 mg/kg) intraperitoneally and a low sodium diet...

Blood pressure, cardiac, and renal responses to salt and deoxycorticosterone acetate in mice: role of Renin genes.

Several studies have demonstrated that mice are polymorphic for the number of renin genes, with some inbred strains harboring one gene (Ren-1(c)) and other strains containing two genes (Ren-1(d) and Ren-2). In this study, the effects of 1% salt and deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)/salt were investigated in one- and two-renin gene mice, for elucidation of the role of renin in the modulation of...
