چکیده

The state of theory in the psychology of religion and spirituality (PRS) is a study in contrasts. William James, the founder of the field, was one of the greatest theoretical psychologists of all time. His writings not only provide a fine legacy of thinking about religious experience, but also include many profound works on the nature of knowledge and human inquiry. Given this history, one would expect the field of PRS to have a rich body of discussions about the theoretical foundations of the discipline.
