of task complexity and their relationship to relevant dimensions of GSS technology. Propositions to guide further research are developed from the theory. Abstract The characteristics of a group's task have been shown to account for more than half the variation in group interaction. In the context of group support systems (GSS), the importance of task has been underscored by the recommendation that achieving a fit between task and technology should be a principle for effective GSS use. Although the body of group support systems research has grown in recent years, and experience with different tasks and technologies now exists, no generally accepted theory of task/technology fit has emerged. This paper develops a theory of task/technolo-gy fit in GSS environments based on attributes 'Robert Zmud was the accepting senior editor for this paper.

Task/Technology Fit and the Effectiveness of Group Support Systems: Evidence in the Context of Tasks Requiring Domain Specific Knowledge

Research on the effectiveness of group support systems (GSS) technology has begun to explore the “task/technology” fit hypothesis, which suggests an interaction between task type and communication mode. Some limited research employing generic tasks and ad hoc groups has found that GSS-mediated groups perform about the same as their face-to-face counterparts on creative tasks but significantly w...

Towards a Specific Theory of Task−Technology Fit for Mobile Information Systems

Mobile information systems hold great potential to support organizational processes. This paper addresses how to realize that potential, the issues involved, the challenges to overcome, and accordingly, the effective strategy to deploy. Based on Goodhue and Thompson’s (1995) general theory of task−technology fit and on Zigurs and Buckland’s (1998) specific theory for task−technology fit for gro...

6. Advancing Task-Technology Fit Theory: A formative measurement approach to determining task-channel fit for electronic banking channels

Since the advent of contingency theory in organisational research, the notion of ‘fit’ has continuously grown in importance. The fit concept is evident in a variety of theories in information systems (IS) research as well. In particular, task-technology fit (TTF) theory is recognised as an important development in IS theory. The incorporation of fit constructs into IS models has led to a need t...

A Study of Exploring the “big Five” and Task Technology Fit in Web-based Decision Support Systems

Although the “Big Five” model has been discussed a lot in behavioral fields, there has been little research on the impact of personality traits with regards to technology on web-based DSS decision. In this paper, we apply task technology fit theory to explore how Individual characteristics affect task technology fit and how task technology mediate between personal characteristics and decision-m...

Application of Rough Set Theory in Data Mining for Decision Support Systems (DSSs)

Decision support systems (DSSs) are prevalent information systems for decision making in many competitive business environments. In a DSS, decision making process is intimately related to some factors which determine the quality of information systems and their related products. Traditional approaches to data analysis usually cannot be implemented in sophisticated Companies, where managers ne...
