LES of turbulent square jet flow using an MRT lattice Boltzmann model

چکیده
In this paper we consider the application of multiple-relaxation-time (MRT) lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE) for large-eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent flows. The implementation is discussed in the context of 19-velocity (D3Q19) MRT-LBE model in conjunction with the Smagorinsky subgrid closure model. The MRT-LBE-LES is then tested in the turbulent square jet flow case. We compare MRTLBE-LES results with (a) single-relaxation-time (SRT) or BGK LBE results and (b) experimental data. Computed results include the distribution of centerline mean streamwise velocity, jet spread, and spanwise profiles of mean streamwise velocity in the near-field region. The phenomenon of axis switching is investigated. The advantages of MRT over SRT are demonstrated. Reasonable agreement between our numerical results and experimental data demonstrate that the MRT-LBE is a potentially viable tool for LES of turbulence. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Turbulent jet computations based on MRT and Cascaded Lattice Boltzmann models
In this contribution a numerical study of a turbulent jet flow is presented. The simulation results of two different variants of the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) are compared. The first is the well-established D3Q19 MRT model extended by a Smagorinsky Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model. The second is the D3Q27 Factorized Cascaded Lattice Boltzmann (FCLB) model without any additional explicit t...

Micro scale gas flows has attracted significant research interest in the last two decades. In this research, the fluid flow of gases in the stepped micro-channel at a wide range of Knudsen number has been analyzed with using the Lattice Boltzmann (MRT) method. In the model, a modified second-order slip boundary condition and a Bosanquet-type effective viscosity are used to consider the veloci...
متن کاملSimulation of Lid Driven Cavity Flow at Different Aspect Ratios Using Single Relaxation Time Lattice Boltzmann Method
Abstract Due to restrictions on the choice of relaxation time in single relaxation time (SRT) models, simulation of flows is generally limited base on this method. In this paper, the SRT lattice Boltzmann equation was used to simulate lid driven cavity flow at different Reynolds numbers (100-5000) and three aspect ratios, K=1, 1.5 and 4. The point which is vital in convergence of this scheme ...
متن کاملExternal and Internal Incompressible Viscous Flows Computation using Taylor Series Expansion and Least Square based Lattice Boltzmann Method
The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) has recently become an alternative and promising computational fluid dynamics approach for simulating complex fluid flows. Despite its enormous success in many practical applications, the standard LBM is restricted to the lattice uniformity in the physical space. This is the main drawback of the standard LBM for flow problems with complex geometry. Several app...

The method of lattice boltzmann equation(LBE) is a kinetic-based approach for fluid flow computations. In the last decade, minimal kinetic models, and primarily the LBE, have met with significant success in the simulation of complex hydrodynamic phenomena, ranging from slow flows in grossly irregular geometries to fully developed turbulence, to flow with dynamic phase transitions. In the presen...
