چکیده

A deep connection between the Hall conductance in realistic situation and a topological invariant is pointed out based on von-Neumann lattice representation in which Landau level electrons have minimum spatial extensions. We show that the Hall conductance has no finite size correction in quantum Hall regime, but a coefficient of induced Chern-Simons term in QED 3 has a small finite size correction, although both of them are similar topological invariant.

The Partially-Split Hall Bar: Tunneling in the Bosonic Integer Quantum Hall Effect

We study point-contact tunneling in the integer quantum Hall state of bosons. This symmetry-protected topological state has electrical Hall conductivity equal to 2e/h and vanishing thermal Hall conductivity. In contrast to the integer quantum Hall state of fermions, a point contact can have a dramatic effect on the low energy physics. In the absence of disorder, a point-contact generically lead...

Hall conductance and topological invariant for open systems

The Hall conductivity given by the Kubo formula is a linear response of quantum transverse transport to a weak electric field. It has been intensively studied for quantum systems without decoherence, but it is barely explored for systems subject to decoherence. In this paper, we develop a formulism to deal with this issue for topological insulators. The Hall conductance of a topological insulat...

Topological Invariant and the Quantization of the Hall Conductance

The topological aspects of wavefunctions for electrons in a two dimensional periodic potential with a magnetic field are discussed. Special attention is paid to the linear response formula for the Hall conductance cxY. It is shown that the quantized value of gxY is related to the number of zeros of wavefunctions in the magnetic Brillouin zone. A phase of wavefunctions cannot be determined in a ...

Twisted Index Theory on Good Orbifolds, Ii: Fractional Quantum Numbers

This paper uses techniques in noncommutative geometry as developed by Alain Connes [Co2], in order to study the twisted higher index theory of elliptic operators on orbifold covering spaces of compact good orbifolds, which are invariant under a projective action of the orbifold fundamental group, continuing our earlier work [MM]. We also compute the range of the higher cyclic traces on K-theory...
